I would like to convert a vertical reed 2.0 to a horizontal. What do I need to do it. What front half and intake will work. It is a 82-83 model. serial 6127862. Thanks ahead of time.

Many people here have done it. Here is a link to one,

You can use the search function at the top, that is where I got this link.

If you can get T-Rex to respond, he is always pretty busy with all his stuff, he can tell you what things will get that 2.0 to go and he can tell you what will not really work that well.

I think once he tried to put a 4 stroke Homelight engine on one of his boats,

just kidding,

By the way, I have a vert 2.0 and it goes great!! I run 145 pounds of compression so I can use pump gas. it is snappy out of the hole and great on the top end as well.

fiberglass reeds for safety more than performance, the rest is stock including the airbox and chokes! Oh, I did bump up the charging system from 9amps to the 14 amp system with voltage regulator. really happy with that.

I would like to convert a vertical reed 2.0 to a horizontal.

WHY????

Unless U are goin to turn ya lil 2.0 into an allout race mota, Tha change iz for zilch!!...Well, az for performance gains anyway!!...I actually hadd vert. motors run better than Horz motors...

I change Vert reed front to Horz fronts on Sum work boats I work on, but only when they need to be tore down...I change them because I can change a piston without remove'in the powerhead from the boat...Time iz a factor sumtimes on theze lil work motors, so I have to git it back on tha water asap, and in most cases tha same day...NO, thats not the way to do it, but it git's the job dun, and thats all Milton kares about...

Juss remember when ya change tha front, U have to change the intake, and relocate the trim solinoids, fuel pumps are diffrent,(and 2.4 horz are diffrent from std 2.5's), not to mention the pumps are on opposite sides!!...Linkage, and throttle cam need to be from Horz motor...Oh, U will also have to swap jets around in ya carbs, they now feed diffrent cyl's with the horz front!!

OK, now back to your original question...U need a early 2.4 horz front and manifold, throttle linkage, cam, fuel pump...Your vert reed cages will work on the horz front(STAY AWAY FROM A 14PEDDLE FRONT!!!!....YOUR 2.0 WILL HATE U IF U DON'T!!)...

Don't meen ta pizz in ya cornflakes, but if ya look'in for a performance gain from all this work, and spent money, U will be very dissapointed...Cut tha heads and git ya comp up to 145 or so, and U will see 10 times tha gain ov swapp'in tha front!!!......Juss my opinion...But I'm juss old, wo out, an way better look'in than Raceman, so whatta I no....

Thanks for the info. I guess I need to spend money on my heads. I just started tearing down and found the head has been damaged from a broken ring. So I need heads reguardless. Do you have a set of heads that will wake this engine up? How much of a jet increase will I have to go? Thanks for the info.

James, U wouldn't want nun ov tha heads I got...U would have to run 11o octain fuel  ...I don't even know what CC will give ya 145#s on tha 2.0...Probablly around 28cc's, but I wouldn't bet my life on it...Take .060 off tha stock head, and check the CC's, then bolt it on tha motor and check comp...Unless sumbody else knows exzakly what cc's will put U at 145#s, then test'in iz the only way to make sure !!

U may even can use your head(the bad one)...cleen up the combustion chamber, and see what it looks like...a few lil dingz won't hurt your river performance, and once U cut .060 off the head, may cleen it up enuff to use it!!,,,REX
