running 2003 ally and 225 promax. Some hesitation on removing rev limiter because of need of lightened flywheel etc. Anyone have experience on going up from 1:87 gears to 1:75 gears? running DAH 30 chopper11 at 96gps at 6600rpm thx for your help

A friend of mind has an Allison Grand Sport with a modified (aftermarket tuner, among other things) 1997 225 Promax (20" shaft). He converted his Sportmaster from 1.87 to 1.75. He is now running a 28" ET for speeds in the middle to upper 90s. I think his rpm is right about 6600-6700. He runs a 26 ET (actually, a Chopper cut to look like an ET) for best holeshot. He said the new gears really made the boat run like he had always hoped it would. I think it also handles better with the new gears because he doesn't need a 30" or bigger wheel anymore. Bottom line is that he loves the change and would not go back. He also has the "Allison cut" on his gearcase and uses a 80 pound weight for balance when running by himself. About all I know.
