got a 280 used supposed to be a fresh rebuild, need to know if builder could have put da new setup where the engine is in breakin mode again, an if so how long will it stay in breakin mode.

Indeed the builder could have reactivated the break-in mode. The simple procedure is in the shop manual.
There is no fixed time for break-in mode. The ECU looks at a number of variables and (in effect) only measures time when the engine is under considerable load.

sammy if it is break-in mode put a big prop on it and drive around with the nose of the boat stuck in the water for probably 10 hours or so!!!!! The ecu see's loaded rpms and not just time!! good luck with the price of gas!!!!

Stay away from the shudder at 5500 rpm. If the engine hit the break-in limiter it "knows" and will add time to the clock. We had a guy with a twin 280/22 DCB that was in break-in mode for 2 years!. Kept banging the limiter and never got out. A couple of hours in the 3-4000 range will get you through it fast. The total time is 8 hours. I can't remember how to get it out (I know how to put it in break-in mode) but if I get time I'll look it up to post it for you.

Thanks, Randy an everybody will keep on pluggin another weekend an see what happens sure is boring but guess I gotta do it will keep it around 3 to 4 grand an hope for da best. Once again I thank everyone for ya help.
