This poll is regardless of your personal likes.
What do you think the market holds for the 4 stroke OB both technically and politically.

I didn't see the choice:
"4 strokes and 2 strokes will co-exist with each dominating the niche that they are good at"
i.e- I think a 4 stroke makes a better pontoon motor
2 stroke makes better sport and fishing motor
For those who cruise mostly then 4 cycle better
For those who frequent this board then 2 cycle better
I see a viable future for both.

I would expect to see turbos or superchargers on 4 stroke outboards in the next five years. This will give them the punch they need to run with a 2 stroke. I still don't like more moving parts, more weight, and a lot more cost.

AHHHH @#@#!!!!
I hit the wrong vote button. Take one away from "because of superi" and put it on the "Political" will ya'. Damn!!!!
While I'm here, may as well respond. The idea of four strokes doesn't bother me too bad when it comes to the pollution and etc... But when you compare hp per pound, the thought of a boat motor having valves, and gosh darn I don't even want to think about tinkering on one, and then,,,,, the sound they make. John Tiger jr wrote in B&WB that the sound of the new v6 was of an engine laboring while at speed. (not trying to quote here).
So come on, yes, its for political reasons. I like the idea, but like Sam Baker said, give me a 2 stroke HDPI, Ficht, or whatever that will push a rig pretty fast and I'm happy.

I hate to break it to you ....but down here in New Zealand you can run what you like.
No politicians , no lobbyists, no rules .....
If you can bolt it on the back you can run it.

Hey, did anyone notice the new Yamaha snowmachine ?
It's a 4 stroke powered hyper-sled based on the awesome R1 croch-rocket engine.
They're pullin' 150 HP out of 998cc and claim 65% more torque than the big 2 stroke twins out there.
IMPRESSIVE !!!!!!!!!
The weight of the sled is only slightly heavier than the SRX 700 that it is replacing (they say the weight of the electric start on the RX1 is the difference.)
I figure if they can get this kind of performance out of a 998cc motor and keep the weight down like that then the future of boating doesn't look too bad to me.
I'm a 2 stroke fan, but when I heard the RX1 start up and take off on the video I think it may be thinking a bit different now !!!!!
Go to the Yamaha website or totallyyamaha to see ,you may be suprised !!!!!!!

Technology is a wonderous thing and I think that it will be better to get the two strokes cleaner than the fours more powerfull. Yes the results in the snow machine are impressive but look at the motor diff. Both, jet skis and snow mobiles used way high perf. two or three cyl. motors to achieve as much as 150 hp or better at times . Imagine if they used a v-6 ?? This is why they can get such an increase in torque. the v-6 4strokes just don't work!
