throttle question

i have an 86 merc 2.4 when i give it gas i have to put it to the floor to get it to open up. from 0 to 3/4 throttle ther is not much happning. after that it screams. i noticed that the carbs dont open till 3/4 throttle. should they be opening as i press the gas?

U need to check ya cable and foot throttle...the butterflies should move after about a inch ov foot throttle movement...I didn't like tha "dead" movement in mine, so I took all that unnessary roller crap off, and it works more like it should...It still haz sum dead movement, but not like before...

from the looks of the plugs it seems to be running on the rich side. is this due to a lack of air from the carbs not opening?

why is this "dead spot" there? i looked over everything and could not find any adjustment other than tightening the cable which i did. i guess ill try it.
