I do not thing that would cause not spark. Your spark usually would come from your stator just the same. If that battery is not completely dead then that can not be your problem. I have a 1975 Honda on the other hand that when the battery goes completely dead you can not even kick start it but I think that the magneto is just very old and worn out. Your boat though, if it has even close to enough juice to turn that motor over it should spark. I would check all your safety switches and make sure none are hanging up and that you do not have any bad wires anywear that are shorting out. Don;t know much about your specific motor but that is were I would start. Good Luck

FYI, HONDA MOTORCYCLE I am talking about in my last post. I do not think honda made outboards back then.

We checked the connection around the motor and found no problems .Charged the batteries and the engine started right up . I need to look some more to find the intermitten fault .

The low battery will cause the weak spark from not spinning flywheel fast enough to produce the needed voltage. Once the engine starts battery is not needed to make ignition voltage. Make sure your battery is good and look for what is drawing battery down.
Good luck
