I'm looking at a 21' liberator w/ twins, and plan on drag racing w/ the NJBA and IHBA (west coast). I understand that DSRA and ODBA both dont allow Twins to race. Why?

Is it a safety issue, a competitive issue, a speed issue (need a capsule?), a "this is the way it has always been" issue?

I asked the guys @ NJBA (national jet boat association) if they would be ok w/ it and havent heard back yet

Thanks

My yellow flamed 21 Liberator was built as a twin engined drag boat. It has twin 260's with 175lbs compression and nitrous on both motors. Was said to run 116mph in the quarter. The first pic is after I redid the boat. The 2nd is how it looked when it was drag raced

I have seen some run in the bracket races. Not legal in the outboard associations. Not enough of them running to make a seperate class.

Thank you gentlemen. I was mostly checking to make sure that there wasn't a safety reason for them not racing.

I can not understand why you wouldnt be allowed to run in bracket races. I never understood that. The single normally has the advantage in a 1/4 due to weight issues. Wildman what kind of et. times would that boat run in a quarter?

There was a 20ft Seebold SkiEagle that had twin 2.4s that used to run in CSDBA and SDBA in OK and TX about 10years ago. Brackets are usually run what you brung to make the number...that is what I like about them.

A single does not have any advantage over a twin in the 1/4 mile or at speed/distance. For example: a 1250lb boat with a single 260 hp versus a 1600 lb with 520 hp. I have had singles, twins and even a triple. A light small twin is a wicked setup. As the Baker's say "Scaryfast"

I'm in a mid weight STV pro-comp now w/ a decent 2.5 (290-300hpish) and a fairly heavy 22'DCB w/ stock 260's kicks my backside from 30-90 or so, propped for a normal day. i can run him down on the big end if i prop for it, and i'm quicker from a stop to 30 or so.

Granted this is all playing on the river, and not competitive, but it is repeatable.

You could probably get a class if there were enough boats to make one.The old 23 Daytona brochure had a tripple merc 2.4 mod vp's with nitrous.87-88.It was said to run close to 140 and he had drag props that got him to 80 in under 4 sec.The boat was built light but thats still PDQ.I would cruise around and look for stv's.

This is my 1987 21 Liberator. Very light - 1620 with interior. Twin 2.4s built by Roberie. Two stage NOS by "The Proffessor".

I have a vidio shot with a camera on a tripod in the back seat that you can put a stop watch too. Idle to 9200 rpm in just under 8 seconds. That is with 1.87 gears and 29" props. Never took it to the lights but it was the king of lake racing around here for quite a while.

The twin has a huge advantage in that counter rotation allows for a perfectly straight hole shot. The problem with most twins is they are just too heavy to be competitive in a drag race.

Hey Hippy, you STILL owe Kevin a call about the money for the L/W FW. He says he's called a few times already and always gets your voicemail.

Thought you would like those Randy. Actually they are clear plastic inserts that you paint the inside. A friend was trying to distribute them so we did the set for the Suburban and the trailer.

The video is on Hi8 and I lack the knowege to get it to digital. This was in 1990 you know. Forkin Crazy told me he had it all figured out so I guess we will do it next time he comes over.
