I need a new winch for my Vector bunk trailer and am trying to figure out what size to get. Is it as simple as getting one that is rated for the weight of your boat? Say 1500lb winch for a Vector with motor? Or would a 1000lb winch do???

Thanks!

Here's the one I recently put on my trailer for my Allison. It is the 1400 lb. version. I wouldn't think you would need anything bigger than this. My boat loaded is well over 1600 lbs. The original winch was either 1000 or 1200 lbs which came from the factory. I actually bought the 1800 lb version of this same winch first and it was way too big.

Thanks for the info! I imagine a 1000lb winch will be fine...

I wouldn't dare put near 1000 # of pressure on the front eyelet of your boat, so I would think that pretty much any winch would work... The pound rating is probably on the ratio of the first wrap of the strap, but anyway...Basically as long as it will pull the slack out of the strap and then lock...No reason to muscle crank the winch like I see so often, just unnecessary and useless stress on your front hull...
