I have a 16 foot checkmate that I am powering with a Merc 150 xr2 with a stock water pick up. I have a CMC power lift jackplate with a 5 inch setback. I have installed the top of the jackplate even with the top of the transom. When I bolted the motor up to the jack plate i ended up using the third bolt hole down from the top on the motor. With the jackplate centered in its travel I ended up with the prop shaft about two inches below the bottom of the pad. Is it ok to have the motor mounted this high on the jackplate? Or should i move the jackplate up higher on the transom? This is my first boat with an OB motor so any help is as always appriciated.

SOUNDS LIKE YOU'RE RIGHT ON THE MONEY. IF YOUR JACK PLATE IS RAISED AS HIGH AS IT CAN GO YOUR PROP SHAFT WOULD BE ABOUT EVEN WITH THE PAD. KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR WATER PRESSURE AND TEMPERATURE AND RUN THE BOAT. START WITH THE JACK PLATE FULL DOWN AND ONCE THE BOAT LEVELS OFF START RAISING THE PLATE IN HALF INCH INCREMENTS. YOU SHOULD FEEL THE BOAT BEGIN TO "FREE UP" . TRY TO KEEP THE MOTOR TRIM IN A SLIGHT BOW UP ATTITUDE. DON'T OVER TRIM OR YOU'LL FEEL THE STEERING WHEEL TIGHTEN UP.

You might have to plug up 2 or 3 top holes on each side with s/s allen hex screws. I try it first.
