another question of mine is , if all my fluid is full in my tilt res in my 1985-140 , why does the motor tilt UP while im in reverse momentarily? air in system? it only goes up a bit when you give it the gas in rev but you notice it when you put it in forward gear caus of the little bump when it comes back down

I would say it would be air or a checkvalve stuck open. More likely air.

Try cycling it several times from all the way up to all the way down and see if that makes a difference.

IMO, You need to find a schematic of the internal workings of the trim/tilt system. A factory manual is a must for doing such a repair. Other wise you are flying blind, so to speak.

It probably is, but it won't hurt to check. And ditto to what Paul said. A factory manual would help a bunch.

Well, have you gone through the trouble shooting guide? The OMC manuals are very thorough.

Look at the circuit, and the valves. It will locate it (them) for you. Remove and inspect.
