1986 200 Black Max question

I had a question reguarding the exhaust on a 200 Black Max. On start up before the thermostats open, a small amount of exhuast and water come out of two small plastic plates on the lower unit. The plates are located on the leading edge of the lower unit. I was told that this was a bypass and normal for this engine. I just wanted to confirm that with the expertise on this board.

I believe those plates are the covers for the lower mounts, I am not sure if any water should come out of there or not though.

I's say you have some sort of problem (blown gasket?). My '83 200 Black Max doesn't do that.
