Has anyone played with how long a velocity stack ,installing longer stacks or shorter on the same set up ? Has anyone cut down or added to the stock air box or removed it to see what gains or looses happen in performance.Everyone talks about exhaust tuner but I haven't seen anything on the inlet side .Im wondering if I messed up opening up the Air Silencer box on a 115 Yamaha.I was hoping that the factory box was designed more to reduce noise than improve performance.

I have exstensivly experimented wit Velosity stack lengths/carb spacers/manifold shapes...I even used 3 diffrent lengths on the same motor to see if any gain would be seen like the new Blue SVS on tha later drag motor...other than look'in strange, NO increase in HP, but at tha same token, No LOSS either!!...The short stacks(stock on mod V-P motors) supozedly inhanse top end, and the longer stacks help bottom...The motor in question will dictate the gain(if any)...I used a modified 2.0 for my experiments...The clocks showed NO change, but the instalation ov the stacks did warrant a jet change over runn'in NO stacks at all...The removal ov the airbox/silencer warrants a jet change in it's self, but will not alwayz give a gain in rpm!!!...I used a set ov stacks with a thicker air box, and it showed a increase in power down low(better 0-40mph times), but nutt'in on top...I thank tha stacks help only if they kan be used wher the "fog" can be used in front ov the carbs...I have found that open stacks to tha forced air don't work az well az a closed cowl(Vented, but not open in front)...The use ov velosity stacks will give ya a lil improvement over NO stacks at all...(if U look in the air box, U will see small built in stacks)...This helps line up tha smooth air flow...tha smoother, tha faster, tha higher tha velosity...Az for az the "Force feed effect", FERGIT DAT!!....U would have to be runn'in 300MPH to force feed air into a motor @ 7000 rpm!!!...The fresh air in tha cowl iz way much better than open front on carbs...REX

Oh well I guess that this is a area that wont see any gains on a almost stock motor turning around the 6000 RPM mark. Thanks for the input T-Rex .
