Have a 2000/200 Optimax that use to start with one try. Then it took two tries, then three and I had to hold the key down longer to start it.
Now it will start but stops right away. Also the busser has a weird chirp to it.
Any Ideas???
Help!

take your boat cable & motor cable( where they plug together under the cowl) & spread the connector pins.... the pins can become pinched & cause problems....

You probably should have your battery tested. These engines require a strong battery....1000 MCA is recommended. Also, check the condition of your main battery connections, both at the battery, and the engine. It is important that ALL connections are clean and tight. double-check ALL ground leads.
These engines ALWAYS require 2 complete revolutions of the flywheel before the engine will start.....if battery voltage drops below 9 volts during this cranking period, the engine may not start. (during the 2 revolutions, the ECM is collecting input data from the various sensors...this is required EVERY time the engine is started)
So I would start your troubleshooting with the battery, and the corresponding electrical connections. Next would be the condition of the starter motor....and then move on to the fuel system......another story. Fill us in on the electrical first.

The problem was the starter switch. Replaced it and all is well.
Thanks SOSMERC and 2springers26 for your help!
