I sure hope somebody here can help me. I have 1989, merc, 2.4 liter fishing motor. After running the motor a bit, I can remove the engine cover, tilt the engine up and over a shotglass of oil runs out of the lower carb. If I leave the motor vertical, I open the butterflys, look in there, and see fuel/oil up to the level of the opening. I have: rebuilt all 6 carbs, new needles and seats, reset float height. Also: New bleed lines and replaced all 5 check valves last year which helped great, but now the problem is back. I am talking over a shotglass full of oil/gas. Can somebody PLEASE clue me in here? I am lost. My factory manual only shows 5 check valves. K-dog

Check needles and seats in the lower carb. Also check float height and for a bad/cracked float that is taking on fuel. Check valves not the prob. They bleed fuel behind the carbs and could not put out the fuel in front of the carb like you describe. The prob. is in the lower carb. Later, drastic.

Hello Drastic. I should clarify something. After the motor runs a bit, I let it sit awhile, and all the SLOWLY rolls out is oil. I ASSume its just oil and no gas, because it is very thick and moves slowly. Already check needles and seats in that bowl, along with inspected the float. Could the VRO be putting out too much oil?
