I have a 79 hydrostream vector with a 80 johnson 150 that has 200 carbs .
Prop is a 14 3/4 *21 set about 1 1/2 bellow the boat . When comming out of the hole its good but after about 10 feet the prop stars sliping bad and wont catch until I throttle back .Is ther any thing I can do to stop this ? Also I just purcased this boat and the guy I got it from said that the only difference between the 150 and the 200 is the carb . Is this true? First boat I have owned any help is apriceated.

had basicly the same set up with a hs vamp. almost lost the boat with a 4 blade, too much rear lift. i had doel fins and a l&s lift and didnt have the problem you stated. as for the diff between the 150 and the 175 its only the carbs, the 200 had a different block [ and maybe the heads]part numbers and tuned exhaust. i had the part list at one time.

try the new merc or omc props they really work better.

You never said exactly what model of prop you have. Not every prop behaves the same way. Not all 4-blades are low-slip high-lifting props, either. Any prop can be tuned and modified to suit specific needs, and some props are custom made-to-order, so two identical "models" can perform much differently.

Solid over-hub round-ear props such as the Merc Chopper and OMC SRX typically ventilate (slip, high RPM) as the boat falls on plane. Additional cupping in the tips and trailing edges of these props will reduce this effect quite a bit, as well as increasing bow lift (and reducing WOT RPM's due to the effective increase in pitch.)

Try some different props...

had a 88 turbo 4 blade. was doing about 70 and tried to make a slight turn. the boat did but the motor just keep going straight. the boat was total air born.

love my mod turbo 3 blade but does fit the 200xs sportmaster.

the prop is a over the hub sst 14 3/4 by 21 the only problem i have is the cavitation just after taking off . other than that its a blast .also i tryed to lower the motor a little and its as low as it will go due to the 4 inch raised part of the transum where the motor mounts . is the prop the problem or is the bout set up wrong ?
