E-tech Is Faster And Has Better Fuel Milage. I Saw A Ranger With A New 225ho E-tech And It Wuold Run 75mph On Gps And Thats The Fastest Ranger I Have Ever Seen. The Optimax Xs On A Triton 21 X Only Runs 70 To 75. I Have A Stratos 201 With A 225ho E-tech It Will Run High 70s To Low 80s Very Easy Depending On The Load I Am Packing. E-TECH IS STONG ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE OPTIMAX XS HAS EXCELLENT BOTTOM END BUT THEN IT KINDA FALLS OFF. I HOPE THIS WILL HELP

The thing I don't like about the E-tech is that for the first 3 years the dealer can't touch them. They have to be sent back to the factory. So if you have problems you will have to strap your weed eater to your boat while your engine is on vacation at the factory.

My brother owns a small outboard shop and he gets his omc parts from a nearby dealer and he told my brother this. Hey ,I would shure check into this before buying.

As a dealer, they are sent back only if its a major component replacement and thats after the new part is already installed by the dealer, another words they are recalling if a part fails to find out why.

I'm having a 21' Sutphen rigged with a Merc Opti 225 Pro XS. This engine is a de-tuned 250 XS which has pretty much had the bugs worked out. I know this engine has an operating range between 5500 to 6000 rpms. The E-Tec 225 HO is 4500 to 5800 rpms. Both engines are 3 Star Carb. The E-Tec has a 25" mid at 517 lbs. The Merc has a 20" mid at 505 lbs. I think the Mercs TorqueMaster gear case with big shaft may be better in the high performance environment. Both have 3 year warranties. In this day and age, probably can't wrong with either. I just can't stomach sending any money to Evinrudes parent company, Bombardier.

neither motor is all that special and both cold to spare a few lbs of fat off them.. I want the 225X back for that class of OB it was lighter faster and more efficient in my opinion.

What is wrong with the Bombardier family?, The corporation Bomardier sold it back ( recreational peoducts ) to the family, the jets and trains are still the old company.
