View Full Version : My boat ramp idea

After waiting over 30 minutes for 2 pwcs and one boat to use the ramp on sunday I came up with an idea. They should have two ramps at the marina or state park. One ramp for people that are pros at the ramp and another for the rest of the idiots. and if you get in the pro line and are clearly not a pro I think that you first get kicked off the ramp and you must pay again to launch with the rest of the morons. what do you guys think about this.

I think it is a great idea :D our problem is every one out here in San Diego has to have the biggest boat they can find, then take the whole ramp up with it, and finally get all of the gear ready, warm the boat up, have dad launch it and get out to drive the truck up and park....maybe give a launch course upon purchase of there valdeze.

With all their dilly dallying around, stopping to talk to each other for hours
while were waiting to get loaded in a long line of debaters and egotists
spilling their guts about the exciting moments of LAST years bloody pwc
conquests.
Gets me right here!
Or the ones who leave the dock to get out of their wetsuits and take an
hour to get back while everyone waits for them to move their toys out
of the way and then take another 30 minutes fussing over their little
motorized corks and then have to ask for help while the hours seem to just
erode away and the rest of us are stuck behind these ablivious people.
But worse, the ones who jack up their pwcs onto the trailer and LEAVE the
bloody car and trailer sitting on the ramp while they get changed!!! Arghhhh!!!
Can anyone say, Flat Tire!!!

The Red River here is the new hot spot.4 ramps 20 idiots. The river has nice double ramps, there is allways some jackass that uses the center of ramp.I have no problem with the guy that is alone. My favorite is the NEW boat owner, first season, first boat. The wife, kids, and every other know nothing mullet head relative standing next to NEW boat watching. I will never understand why these people dont help!GET YOUR DUMB AZZs OUT OF THE WAY! My wife can launch or retrieve in under 1 min. providing there is no one in the way.Hell my kid knows the routine and what do,straps, transom saver, battery switch, plug, and his life jacket. I think the government need tv moniters playing telling IDIOTS how all this stuff works.

Clean, that's funny!!!
I had one of pull up beside me on an 1100 or something and wanted to race. I pointed at him and started laughing. He punched it. I let him get about 200' feet out and blew by him like he was tied to an anchor!!! :D

Summers here, the idiots are out. I sat at a ramp today and just floated around waiting my turn. One ramp was consumed by a big Bayliner cruiser that looked 30 yeard old and was as tall as it was long with a for sale sign on the windshield, two guys trying to get it on the trailer. Back up, ram trailer hard enough to shake truck, back up, ram trailer get all sideways, back off turn around, ram trailer again---

Ive seen people drop new boats right on the concrete. I dont understand how people can be so stupid.
- Sometimes its funny just to sit at the ramp and watch the morons all day.

Yeah, I wish there was some sort of ramp attendant to get the retards out of the way. I took my little checkmate out for the first time last saturday and there were some guys loading a 30 foot baja, nice boat but they probably spent a half hour just trying to launch it, they watched in amazement as my wife backed my trailer up perfectly the first time and we were in and out in less then 2 min. I don't know why some people have such a hard time with it, its always been a pice of cake for me no matter what i was loading and un-loading. My favorite is always the guy who leaves his drain plug out, "hey buddy your boat is sitting a little low in the rear, you put your drain plug in right?.....oh $%&!@"

I hate to launch behind morons as much as the next guy--they will sell a boat to anybody no brains needed!--but, you can also see some of the funniest $hit ever at a ramp, especially if there is a BADDD current! Fist fights, more skin than you'll see at a nudi-bar, divorces, etc. All with the same 1st time boater! :D We have a ramp at the end of the Anclote River that the current just rips around, and on most Sundays after to much beer/sun/kids/etc. it's the best cheap entertainment going--unless you are waiting to pull out  :D

ok guys.... not all of the " morons" are untrained idiots...... I have been on the preforming end of the commic relief with a brokered boat that had a transom failure, no steering, broken trailer and a shorted out bilge pump......... 20 min of panic going back to ramp..... 15 min waiting for my trailer to return and fighting the fact that there was 4' of water when the boat finally got on the trailer only to have the water weight be enough to lift the back wheels of the truck off the ground 1/2 way up the ramp.......... was it funny I AM SURE........ can I launch a boat in under a min.... yes I can.... do it all the time... but even experianced people get screwed by problems that make the best look bad.....

In May(works best early in season), leave the rig at home and go sit by a 2 or four lane ramp. Take some popcorn and enjoy. See straps / chains left off boats at TOP of steep ramp when entering water. Boat goes bounce, bounce, thud, and splash.
There is always a guy that's a 'pro' at launching and decides to cut into a 30-40 minute waiting line.

Ray,
The only problem would be that you would have "left lane bandits" just like the guy on the hwy who won't get over.

in fact if i notice some one is particularly upset, i slow down even more. one time some fool is sitting in his bass boat with the nice big merc outboard running while im backing in.then the idiot has his wife back up to me and trap my rig on the ramp. so there i am tilting down my out drives and turning on the blowers when this fool gets outa his boat and leaves it running on the trailer to ask me if im gonna get the "f" outta his way because his motor is over heating.
out here we call dumb f's like that a word that combines city and idiot, cidiot.
acting like its race time at the ramp is foolish. sure if the place is packed its not time to have a picnic.

I look at it as free entertainment. There is nothing you can do about it so just sit back and enjoy the fun.
I can say this because I solved the problem by buying a place on the water. I launch in my yard, no waiting!
My daughter and son in law just got a boat. I showed them that she could back the trailer in and as soon as it stops he has the boat on and they are out of there. It looks really cool and takes just seconds.
If you are loading a boat that has a lot of water in it pull it up just a little and let the water drain out. Then pull up a little more and let the water drain. Pulling a boat out with a lot of water in it can damage the boat and the trailer.

I have my own ramp in my yard too, I just leave the trailor backed down the ramp, when I get back home, I just pull right up on the trailor.
The public ramp is across the street from my house, when the parking lot is full, I always get strangers wanting to park in my yard.
If I felt like staying home and taking up $ I could make some $$$$,
But I want to BOAT RIDE!
I have a remote controlled gate at my driveway, and I left it open one time when I went to get gas, when I got back there was a truck & trailor parked in my yard with a note on the windshield, saying, "thanks for letting me park here".........I HAD NO CLUE WHO THIS D*#K WAS!!!!
The only reason I didn't have it towed, was that MAYBE it was someone I knew.
Turns out that I had seen the guy before, but I didn't even know his name.

Now this is a great place to watch the redneck idiots try to put their boats back on the trailer after a day at the skinny dippin hole drinking shots of who knows what.
This one guy has a brand new Ford Deisel - brand new Master Craft - and one of the self locking bow stop clips (no need for a frickin strap ya know?)
Well he drives the boat on the trailer (which is 5 feet deeper than needed) and guns it when it hits the bow stop (thinkin it would lock) that didn't work. So what does he do? Hits it again - but harder!! After about the third time of knocking the **** out of the bow stop - the truck comes out of gear - and you guessed it - it's now in the ramp with only the cab lights showing.
Boat launch fee - $5
Two cold beers while watching the show- $6
Seeing the dumbass that didn't set the lock on the bow stop in the right posistion dump his $50K truck in the San Jac - PRICELESS!!!!
The only better one - or close to it was when these other two guys came in and loaded their boats at the same time - problem is - they loaded their boats behind the wrong truck (Moss remembers this one)
Geez - some people have too much money than sense!!

they should charge the jackasses $1 a minute to use the ramp... that'll work.

AND the state should charge a $15 service fee for anyone who takes more than 30 seconds of cranking to start an engine..... if she dont start in 15 or less she needs a tune up.
stokernick
04-20-2005, 05:19 PM
no tune up,just turn the battery switch on;or connect the kill switch!!

One thought, though--if they really are newbies, maybe some instruction along with your help can convert 'em. No, Mom's never going to back that 30 footer down with the family Navigator, but get 'em while they are moldable so they at least understand what they can do before backing. Of course, backing and dumping in front of them in 2 minutes also shows how its done.
The PWC dimwits--no way to help them!

Even if it was the first time someone had their boat out, if they had any brains they would have figured out what the drill was before they got to the ramp. They would have gone down to the boat landing and watched for a while and saw the good and the bad ways to launch so they didn't make a fool of themselves when it was their turn. They could have practiced backing up in a parking lot somewhere and put a charger on their battery. "Hey, you got any jumper cables?"
Now in Oregon you have to get a boaters license and some of stuff they teach you is boat launch etiquette. As long as they don't dump the boat on the ramp I figure they're doing good. We go early and avoid the crowd. I'm always surprised by the lack of consideration shown by some of these A**holes. I remind myself they aren't trying to piss me off on intentionally. They are just some brainless idiot that went out and got a boat so they could go out on the water where someone wasn't going to tell them what to do.

best one i ever witnessed.guy spends years restoring a 30ft chris craft wood boat.brings the whole famdamily to watch the launch.puts it in the water only to watch it sink.i guess he didnt know you need to swell a wood boat that has been out of the water.takes a crane and two fire engines to get it out.leaves it sit at the marina for a day as the water drains.now the boat is swelled so he re-launches it and takes it for the maiden voyage only to smoke both inboards.i guess he didnt think about draining the engines that went under.i always get a kick out of guys faces as the watch my wife back me down the ramp.we are usually in and out in under a minute with a boat i have to start in gear and put on the trailer by hand.i never understood what is so freakin difficult about launching or loading a boat.
