john, my egt temp for both sides was between 420 and 435 @ 2000 rpms for breakin on a hose, does that sound right? where should they be @ 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000, 7000, 8000. or should i just worry about the 8000. i thought under 1200 is ok whats is you opinon?
by the way it's a 2.4 b/p steel sleeve carb moto if you don't remeber
thanks,
roy

The only thing that matters is that they are with in 100 degrees of each other when the motor is cleaned out and most important don’t run them over 1200 at wide open throttle. Never depend solely on an EGT, read your pistons to make sure its running right then apply that information to the gauge readings. 420 to 435 is normal for idle.

put some hours on the b/p. getting l little better with the ally.
spun 6500 this weekend about 80 mph. the highest egt was reading 1142.
so i didn't spin it any higher. have a little problem motor wants to stall and puke when i put it it gear. when it goes in gear a have to tack it up to about 1200 rpms then its fine. timing is 0 or 1 degree at idle. it acts like it is to rich.
the ilde jets are 50's i think. anyway main jets are 94's where should i be to spin 8000 rpm safe and under 1150 on egt. also replaced temp sending unit to make sure the old one was correct. the temp gauge is only reading 130 @ 6500 with l&s dual plug heads. i'm looking for a great set of one piece heads about 34 or 35 cc's if you have a set. how much wtr press @ idle and wot. thanks in advance

1150 is safe, I run at 1200 but it’s closer to melt down there. 8000 RPM is good if you want the motor to last a long time. The heads have to go, get mercury heads, foam cast 32cc. To fix the idle first adjust all the carbs so they are totally closed. Make sure you have a small amount of clearance between the throttle cam and the rubber wheel on the carb linkage. Set the idle at 1000 RPM using the pickup timing screw. You should end up with more than 1 degree at idle. If not either one of your carbs is hanging open or the butterflies have to many or to large air bleeder hole in them. This will fix the problem if done right. I might have same heads for you.
