Who's do you run? What setback? Rate it on a 1 to 10 scale. Also comment on any problems.
THANKS, Mike

L&S Works as claimed. It's been on a Valero for 10 or 12 years. Have to replace the nylon liners on the shafts this winter (they are starting to crumble from age).
I think LaveyT had bought and installed it on his old Valero YT orginally.

" Rapid Jack" from Chuck Goodman @ Hydro Dynamics

That is if you are talking manual racing jack plates and not laking hydraulic ones! If you are talking hydraulic sorry for the post I may have misread ! Goodman makes the best manual plate and is the benchmark of the industry!

I have a Bob's 10". I think the most important thing to figure out how much setback you need. I've had a CMC and L&S too. My current plate is fantastic and Bob's electronic gauge is great. One LED for each 1/4 inch. The plate is fast also. A simple bump gives you 1/4 inch of travel. All that trash about plates flexing and what not is a bunch of crap. Another thing to consider is whether or not you want a pump in the boat or on the plate.

5 1/2" CMC hydraulic j/p with a CMC spacer (2 1/2") for a total of 8" setback. I have never had one problem with the CMC j/p. The main point that I like about the j/p is that it is a self contained, "clean" looking design.

Have had them on 3 different boats. Are easy to adjust no guess work or measuring. Just loosen the bolts and crank the ratchet.

5.5" Manual (ML65). Not the prettiest, Structually sound and gets the job done. I have been using them for over 10 yrs.
Only time a notice the bolts loosening is after long tows (say 500 miles). But it never usually is more then one of the 4 bolts.
Use it on a STV PCS.
Pitfalls...Hard to adjust ht if Boat is the water. Supposedly CMC have rectified this problem. with an in-boat Bolt now!

I have a Bobs manual 5 inch setback. It can be adjust when on the water but you have to down in the water to loosen the two lower bolts. Have not had any problems with bolts loosing up.

I had Nitrous delivered to Clippard for my old Crossflow,But I wussed out and sent it back! Bought the L&S but 4 inches just
wasnt enough set back for the Bowrider.A Turbo 13.5?? or so ran
the best with a 24 Raker,But when I put a 26 Raker on the old 6.5" Turbo ran better,Go Figure?
On the Lavey I now have a 12.5" static plate, manufacturer unknown!

The plate laser sold me is workin like a champ. It's simple, clean and built like a tank. I see them used everywhere for $100-$150.
It's not that hard to adjust, but you do need to be in the water to do it. I don't attempt to lock the nuts on the shaft in the water, that would be tough. I wait till I get back to the shop for that. Just tighten the side bolts and that's plenty. Havn't seen them loosen yet.

5 1/2" CMC hydraulic, seems a little slow but works great, its the only jack I have run.

Mine is a little slow also, just they way they are made I guess. This last year the valve in the pump started leaking so it creeps down. Its an old one. I finally just made a couple of wood blocks to hold it all the way up. (winter project) overall I'm happy with it.
A couple of years ago I took it apart and powder coated everything but the pump. Take a look - polished it first, then coated it in a translucent blue. I also did the tilt/trim bracket.

Bruce, glad to hear the jackplate is working for you. I almost replaced mine with the manual when it started leaking. However....I'm lazy and I had already spent all that time powdercoating the hyd. jack.

Laser,
Nice ...real nice, about to invest in a powder coating gun. lady across the street was throwing out an oven. Came home that night it was gone, so one the search for a castaway oven...
How did you find the powder coat process, seems pretty straight forwar, but is ALWAYS does in a picture book.

PS...thanks to all that replied, Seems CMC is in the lead, I thought it would be BOBS!

H20nut,
Powdercoating is a piece of cake. I've found just like any finish, CLEAN - CLEAN - CLEAN. The actual spraying of the powder is real simple, just follow the instructions. It works.
The thing about powdercoating that is unique and appealed to me the most is: You can apply it to a polished surface! The translucent colors are amazing. Works great and it sticks like glue. Very worthwhile to do yourself. Easy to get excellent results. The jackplate was one of my first try's at it and I was very pleased.

Once again I'm no techno weenie but, when my CMC pump motor failed, Eric(at
least I think it was Eric)Cook, walked me through every step required to
troubleshoot the problem. With his help I was able to conclude that the brushes
were worn out and the armature was ok. I replaced the brushes for $12. A
considerable savings compared to $250 which was the estimate from a couple of
non hi-po boatdealers in my area.
I would like to thank CMC once again for the great technical support they gave
me. They stand behind their product. Now about those bolts...

Had an older L&S 500 series- HATED IT, took if off an went faster in the V-King
Bought a new CMC after having a used one for awhile. I'm adding 12" of static to the CMC and wouldn't dare do that w/ an L&S.

Im not sure what difference it makes but it seems like the hydraulic plate is usually mounted to the motor? With the static plate against the boat?hummmmm,I guess it wouldent mater?

Static then CMC then motor. Sorry for the mislead.

I use strickly, Rapid Jack. They have many styles up to 15 inch setback, and will powdercoat almost any color. They range in price from $150-$475. Stainless Marine makes the best hydraulic in my opinion, but cost$995. I can get anyone good deals on either brand. Email me with your needs at liberatorboats@yahoo.com see-ya WILDMAN

23" of setback? We need proffessor OB to calculate the stress per inch of set back on the transom? Does it run any better than with your original set back?Acording to fast eddie mine had 18" or so but was slower.

Y'all forgot other! My friend and myself made this custom jack plate on a CNC over head mill (mostly my friend, I was the train driver:) ).
It has 8" of set back and will jack WAY UP! It also has 3* of angle added to the base legs to help with tuck in. This was a learning process. We had to go back and engineer it once. The first time it did not have enough tuck-in and would not go near high enough. After it was built and installed, I was paraniod that it was going to have too much leverage on the short transom. So we (he) machined brackets to the two legs of the plate to plates sandwiched between the stingers via SS tubing with RH and LH and hyme, hieme, hime............., spherical rod ends so I could set some preload.:D I also have a .250" plate on the outer transom as well as a plate on the upper bolts on the inside. You also see that the motor is on it's highest setting. I have a shorter mid on the drawing board.
