BBSP was featured in Hot Boat two years ago and we all had a blast. BBSP is the kick off to another great boating season.
BBSP is an annual event and was originally started by Havasu Barney and Wicky four years ago. They invited performance boaters from Hot Boat www.HotBoat.com, Havsu Barney www.************.com Scream & Fly www.screamandfly.com, Las Vegas Hot Boats www.lasvegashotboats.com and other forums to come to Havasu and race at Speed Alley for fun. OUTBOARDS aka Wackas vs. INBOARDS aka car motor boats. Basically it is an event were we meet, put a face with a screen name, show off our boats, race and generally have as much fun as we can.
The only two rules at BBSP is that your boat must be launched at Windsor Beach Launch Ramp and make it all the way to Speed Alley under it's own power. No towing of 1/4 mile drag race boats to Speed Alley... unless it's just for show. The boat must make the 3 mile trip to Speed Alley without a tow. The second rule is that a Lifeline vest or other safety vest be worn when racing.
BBSP has always been focused around the Proverbial 4/20 date. We have made adjustments in the past due to Easter. This year since 4/20 falls mid week, we are moving the BBSP VII date to April 29, 30 and May 1st 2005.
This year is very special because we are celebrating Havasu Barney's triumphant return. HAVASU BARNEY IS FREE!!! Havasu Barney will be our Grand Marshall & Guest of Honor.
Wicky aka "Sushi on the Spot"... originally from Claremont California, now resides in Idaho AND DRIVES ALL THE WAY TO LAKE HAVASU for this event is our resident sushi chef. Wicky drives a mean Allisson boat as fast as he can all... day... long... and gets some serious air. Most of the time only his prop is in the water.
Uncle Tony has been the BIG DAWG ( FASTEST BOAT ) in his nitrous injected outboard the last two years running. Uncle Tony has a new surprise this year... but I'm not going to let the CAT out of the bag. I'll let him do that!!!
Kim Hanson... The man we alll like to tease. He still get ribbed about his Canadian shorts. Kim COMES ALL THE WAY FROM CANADA to attend this event and this time he is bringing his V8 powered outboard to play with. He leaving the Big Block at home.
Opening day Friday April 29, 2005 We meet at Speed Alley mid-day. This is like any other arrival day. We meet out there, see who shows up, try some speed runs and adjust any new toys that were installed during the winter.
Saturday April 30, 2005 We meet once again at Speed Alley... early morning hopefully to get a good parking spot on the sand beach (UPDATE!!! THE WATER IS REALLY HIGH AND THERE MAY NOT BE MUCH OF A BEACH UNLESS YOU GET THERE EARLY!!!) and spend the day racing and having fun. Saturday at around 6:00pm we are going to go to Havasu Hot Laps again. This is a serious grudge rematch for Kim Hanson and Barney. After a day of racing in boats we turn to GO-CARTS. The first place trophy aka "Rubber Chicken" for fastest boat will be awarded at dinner. This year we are going to the Golden Horseshoe Restaurant on London Bridge Road for dinner.
Sunday May 1st, 2005 Some make it back out to Speed Alley this day if they are not to hung over from the night before for one last day on the lake. This is usually a travel day for most of us.
Make BBSP VII the first boating event you write down on your 2005 calendars.
As the date nears I will keep you updated and provide maps on how to get to Speed Alley...It's on the way to the Sand Bar!!!
