There has been a bunch of talk lately about props on SOB including some by me. There was a sugestion by Boatmender to start a new thread, so here it is. List what you have tried, what you liked and what you didn't and maybe even what you would like to try :D
Let me start off by saying, I am kind of in a bubble out here on the west coast, from what I figure I have the only Activator out here, I know of one Progression, that I have only seen on one trip and a couple of Velocities that I have never seen in the water. Most of my go fast friends have STV's, HST's or big sterndrive boats, so most of my prop testing invloves buying a prop, trying it, and selling it. So any feed back form S&F is grateful.
So far my best all around prop is a 4-blade trophy large barrel, I run it with all of the PVS plugs out, I love the hole shot, the cornering bite, and the rough water bite. When I am lightly loaded it carrys the bow fairly well at WFO, but with more than 1 person I have to over trim to carry the bow. However, at normal crusing speeds 40-60mph, it carrys a load very well.
I also have a small barrel trophy plus but smaller pitch than my standard prop that I acquired for sking. So far I don't like it a much, it dosen't plane as well (not really a plus for a ski prop) it blows out more but so far I have only tried it without a sealing ring and all the plugs in, I now have a sealing ring and will try that soon. When on plane it dosen't carry the real of the boat as well as the large tube prop.
I tried and sold a Tempest that didn't work nearly as well as my Trophy, didn't lane as well, didn't handle as well and was about the same on the top end.
I want to try a Bravo I and a Mazco RE4
Wow that truned out to be a much larger post than I expected, everyone else please ad your experences, thanks Scott

OK BMF  ...I'm with you.
I need a prop that will provide ....
1) Good Holeshot :)
2) Good MidRange Speeds :)
3) Top End Speeds :)
4) Lift & carry the bow without trimming to the moon.
The RE4's look like half chopper/half trophy???

I can tell you that the ET defintely doesn't work on a progression. Does work well on a superboat. Way too much bow lift for my POS. We are going to try a 30 Cleaver next.

I did find 2.5-21's option form the other thread very interesting:
and run out of money they have all been tried and at the end of the day the trophy comes out on top. Just remember the older trophys seem to be a little different and not every trophy works the same. I did some prop testing last fall with with kirk from kryptonite we swapped a couple of trophys of the same pitch and had a ten mph variation with 2 24 trophys on the yellow one his friend frank owns and my 21 sb. so if you already run a prop you think is good try another of the same pitch! youll be surprised .
If you want info on working the trophy just ask JERRY I dont think he will lie about what happened.
10 mph variation with two trophys of the same pitch
On my Challenger 300 combo, I tried 28 trophy and couldn't get the boat over 75 mph, it was handling issues, but it runs 101 on a Tuff 21. I ran a 27 Tempest which is my fastest prop to 90.1, but it sucks to plane, but once up it trucks!. 28 chopper II is my current favorite, but it hasn't the top end of the tempest, high 80's is about it. I also have a 26 Bravo and never got on plane. It is one very BIG wheel.

Rob, have you tried it with vent holes in it?
Ya the PVS plugs were right out and I had my aeration pipe in the cavatation plate.
I doubt your 280 will have the torque. It is harder to turn than a tempest.

You are probably right, I was thinking of a little less pitch though (maybe a 24). The Tempest I tried was a 25, I got on plane fine once it quit slipping, but I really couldn't spin it all the way up (I think it topped out around 72-7300).
So the Bravo I is probably just a pipe dream...
Maybe I should be looking for another trophy to have worked,
I missed a Boger worked 24 trophy that was for sale, by about a day :(

26 American Offshore twin 300 pm,s.15/ 34 lab clevers 6400 @ 105 ,they plane bad and slip every where on this boat,no fun to drive.Trying 15/34 bravos with 1 inch vent holes. They plane great, pull hard and run 98 @ 5500, lots of fun to drive.Does anybody think 32 ET,s would improve anything? If not ET,s then what? The trim is neutral and the motors are at the limit of the sportmaster water pickups.Motors are 18 inchs back for tilt room and the bottom has 12 inchs of step. 1.62 gear.I have the following props for people to test on your boats (28 ET) (28 Mazco RE4) (30 Spinely clever) (26 Mazco chopper) (26 L and R Hoss hyperdrive).

BMF...SUPERBENDER was running a brand new 28 RE4 yesterday. I got a good look at it. Its very "sharp"... compared to a TrophyPlus. He said he liked its characteristics (thinks he may need a 27).

Bash did superbener say how the characteristics compair to the trophy?
I think I can get a RE4 to try, but I think it is a 26P may be too much pitch for me, but I should give it a try :)

BMF...Given the conditions he was testing in...from what I understood he said it acted pretty much like it is advertised.
RE4 (http://www.mazcoprops.com/re4prop.htm)
I am going with either a 24 RE4 or brand new 24 ChopperII as my TOP SPEED prop...& keep the Trophy for an all around everyday prop. The experts have advised me.

The right balance from weight distribution and right set-back solves most problems, and then a good prop is almost the rest of it. If your boat goes straight over 2 ft waves at wide open, then the set-up is perfect is what I have experienced. I have tested different props, and like the 4 blades a lot because they like high X-dimentions because of the large blade area. I use a 4-blade Mach chopper with two of the blades cut off to have the area decreased... Strange, but the prop works better than any other prop on this boat. Her is a picture.

Thanks for the post Y225, are Mach's even built anymore.
I also have to ask, who's idea was it to make two of the baldes smaller?
