I need to hook up a tach to a '74 evinrude 85 hp, is this possible? and if so could I get some basic instructions? Thanks very much.:)

Sorry, I made a mistake it is a '74 model. Does this make it harder?

There should be a plug in the back of your controls a cable plugs in with a harness up to the tack. At least thats how my 86 110 hooks up. Im not at the shop but if you need I can look up the cable number later this evening. Rick

It depends on which remote that you are using. If it is pre 1978 controls you will have to hook to the Gray wire in the control. If you are using a 1979 or newer control you can get a tach lead.

There's a good diagram at the bottom of this page:

Set the tach for 12-pole/6-pulse
