Question #1 Can a Mercury V-6 be re-ringed without splitting the crankcase halves? In other words, can the rod caps, bearings, etc, be accessed by just taking the intake manifold off? Question #2 Is there any performance to be gained on a late model 200 EFI by switching from the 39 psi regulator to the 59 psi regulator?

#1 yes :cool:not the best way to do it

I have re-ringed like you say! There are tricks to doing it... like putting
Vasoline on the roller brgs. and storing them in the freezer 'till you install
them! This keeps them together on the rods! It can be done!

Yes on #1, But why?. If it's time for a re-ring pull the p/h and do a good job do it once. On replacing 1-2 burnt pistons or beating flat-rate you can do #1 but on a re-ring pull p/h and do a good job ( de-carbon block, check crank bearings etc.) later. On #2 basically NO. Your motor can only burn/process so much fuel and air. If you change the regulator to 56 psi. you need to change computer also to match. when you change comp. to match you will just end up with basically the same fuel curve you had.

The answer to #1 is yes but I don't suggest it ! Mercury rods are "cracked capped" types and are a must to assemble back with an EXACT FIT, they are sometimes tricky to line up and see even when they are right in your face with the cases split . I replace one at the races on Super Stock motors for inspection for rules compliance and for time reasons and take a chance but 6 NO WAY , not smart to do as one mis aligned rod cap will result in the crankshaft and related rod will be destroyed !

Answer to # 2 is NO your ECU is calibrated for a working pressure of 39 lbs and a 56 lbs regulator will cause the motor to be silly rich.......

Good Luck,
