As I stated in my previous post I want to switch to Allisyn 2 cycle oil, but I still have close to 2 gallons left in my oil tank. I know that need to pull the oiler off and premix, so I will take the tongue lashing in stride, but I really want to switch. Can I start mixing the Allisyn w/ the Merc power plus, or will I have a problem in mixing them? I talked to Aerospace Lubr. and all they said to mix alittle of each in a jar and let it set awhile to see if they would react. I am going to try it, but with all the experience and knowledge on this site I figure someone should know if I could do this. Thanks for your time.

P.s. If any of you out there would like to take a novice under there wings when it comes to port work, well really everything wen it comes to Mods, I could sure use the help.

If Mercury oil all came from one supplier this would be easy - but since it doesn't....

Do like ALI suggested. Use a small clear container - even a plastic Coke bottle - and add a few ounces of both oils. Mix well by shaking, and let stand for a couple of days. If they seperate, don't mix the oils.

Realize that ALI has TWO 2-stroke oils. The racing, and the biodegradeable. Both are great oils.

Be careful. Alisyn is an ester-based oil and all ester-based oils don't mix very well with mineral oils. That said, for it to pass TC -W3, it supposedly needs to mix with any other TC-W3 oil.

Do you think it is fine to run the Merc oil out as much as possible and then just start adding the Alisyn? I feel abit more at ease with this procedure then just adding the alisyn to the existing merc oil.
Thanks everyone for your replies.
Thanks,
JB

you can add it after the tanks runs pretty much dry... the alarm( its still hooked up RIGHT) goes off with 30 min of oil @ WOT left.. so if changing oils you can go in tell the alarm just beeps slightly over a big wave which induces a shlosh in the resovior under the cowl.. there should be about 8-16 OZ of oil left in the 3 gal resovior and then add the ali oil to the main tank and there should be no problems. I did that with mine 5 yrs ago when I switched to the full synthetic blends of oil I buy ( castrol or amsoil) from merc oil and had zero problems with the oiling system and its prime or anything... just besure that you check for air in the system after the switch to ensure the oil is still pumping...

Amsoil might well be a fine oil, although a lot of people don't like their outboard oil, but I just can't stand the Amsoil salespeople.

You can get the 100% synthetic Pennzoil at Wal-Mart for 20 dollars per gallon. That is a great price for an ester-based oil.
