I know most here are interested in shortening their mid from 20 to 15" but I know some of you have experience with extending mids with kits.
I'm looking at a deal on a 2005 merc 200 EFI (3.0 Liter)but it's 20". I want to use it on a boat set up for a 25" transom. I may want to later put it on my Image shadow 21 with a 20" transom. How durable are the extension kits? Do they use an extension on the driveshaft, shiftshaft, watertube, or do they replace with a longer item? Any one got any "deals" on a kit for a 3.0 merc? How much do the kits run?

Do a search on 3.0L 5" extentions. There was a guy here selling one last fall. They work good. Usually it's like you thought, 5" extentions. On two piece driveshafts, you would want to get the longer upper shaft.
If you are running a Sportmaster, the studs won't be long enough. (Sportmasters have a thicker flange) and you'll have to get the studs from McMaster Carr.

Thanks Ron,
Any idea on price if I buy a new kit? How's the big cat coming? I enjayed your posts on the build up. I just wish I were closer so I could see it in person.

Dave, glad you enjoyed my pain and suffering :o

Bay mfg. makes the kits. Their # is 419-499-4602. After you get a price, you'll want to start looking for a used set-up. There are a couple listed here somewhere.
Good luck.
