For curiosity, how did you rig up the shifting mechanism? If I decide to go e-tech, it'd be nice to know.

I was trying to post a pict of the shift setup that was the main reason for the post but the pict wouldnt load. I will try and take another pict tomorrow but basically i used the merc slider and arm it all worked out fine.Dave

kinda hard to see but the merc slider is mounted to the block with an aluminum angle, the link arm neded a few bending adjustments.I also had to cut the original shift shaft boss off the block for the merc arm clearance,Dave

Hey H20Performance, How did you bolt that to the standard V8 housing? Did you use an adapter plate. I am interested in how you did that. It looks good. I run a V8 on a 21 Daytona Elminator.

I welded a 1/2" plate on then adapted the v6 to it instead of welding the top half back on, its 14".One thing i found out doing this also is the merc lowerunits are about an inch shorter than the omc from the mounting surface to the prop shaft C/L, so if you go with one you will be able to drop down another 1/2 inch.Dave

Do you sale the adapter plates? Is the Sportmaster shorter from where it bolts to the housing to the centerline of the prop shaft or would it be the same length since you have to run the adapter plate? (I think I said that right).

JP yes you have to subtract the adapter but i re read my last post and realized i left out the 1/2 before the inch.I made only the one for my self but i was told wayne taylor makes them from 1/2 material mine is thicker because thats waht i could get my hands on. Its not real hard to make one the drive shaft center line is what you are worried about. Both driveshafts are .875 so start with a hole in the plate slightly larger than that size so it will slip over the shaft. put the plate on a merc lower and drill up the pattern do the same on the omc unit and now you have both bolt patterns centered on the drive shaft. Then you can cut out the areas for the waterpump and the outside contour.Dave

Makes A adapt plate, I bought one last year from him I belive for 225.00 .Dave, Queston,,, So how come you put a 6 on a 8 mid, Dont get me wrong It looks cool as hell, but I would think the 8 mid Is somewhat heaver than a 6, Is It because of the snout on the 8 mid. Anyway Its got me thinking. You talked to Gary lately, I lost his new number, You got It. Thanks.

Taylors plate for $225 sounds like a good deal they are kinda time consuming. Two reasons for the 8 mid one is i have thought for a long time the v6 mids when cut down dont have enough exhaust expansion and exit area for a good breathing looper, seemed like on my motor anyway the more i opened up the holes in the mid the more she liked to turn up.The omc mid is the same size back to the original v4 i dont know why they didnt design a new mid when the looper came out,the six inner powerhead bolts would not be needed their only there to make the old mid work on the big adapter.Second is yes the cool factor i have never really liked the looks of the add on snouts.I will email you garys number .Dave
