1996 stv with 200 merc, need some help there is a lot of wheel torque to the right. l do not have a torque tammer but l have a regular zink. the boat has gone 90 mph but with the wheel turn. l think it is holding the boat back from going faster. l just got a new 30 chopper that has more lift then eny prop l have had, l have a 26 chopper and a 28 chopper. this 30 will get the hole boat out of the water, when it does l notist that its alot harder to control. mY ques, will a torque tammer help with this problem. ps l would do a search on this but it is down, eny help would be great.

How high up is the motor (prop shaft in relation to the bottom of the center pad) and how much setback are you running? The choppers have more blade area out at the tip, which makes more steering torque. A cleaver or ET/Yamaha will have less torque on the wheel.

The motor is level with the pad, l was going to move it up some for more rpms but l was reading alot on this wheel torque problem and like you said some props have more wheel torque then others. just have to drive it more, and get use to this prop. thanks for the info.

What kind of steering system is on the boat? Mine has dual cable steering. At the bottom of the helm, there is a knob that will add tension to the wheel, which helps aleviate some torque. I used to use it, then got used to not having in in there.

The choppers have more blade area out at the tip, which makes more steering torque.
Learned something new today.

added the torque tammer and went out this morning 6.30 am  before l could not get past 90.5 gps, now first pass 95 gps and my steering wheel torque is very little . So the torque tammer did make a diffrence. the motor is level with the pad so lm going to go up 1/2 inch and see how it goes , mabe l will see that 100mph mark.................

Is the motor mounted on the transom or on a jack plate or setback bracket? Mine is on a 6" setback jackplate and seems to run the best at about 1/2" above the pad, 6" back.

just moved the mota 1/2 inch and the boat was a little diffrent driving made a 90 mph pass just to get use to it. Then went 96.2 6450 rpms and over 15 psl water presser. the speed was still going but ran out of room, need time to so down also. Were it is at l think l can get 98 but with the water presser fine lm going to move it 1/2 more and see what it does. PS the more l move up the loser the boat get , lose is fast but scary. :D
