Jerry, I'll give ya a few thangz to do for a strong river motor...The whole thang revolves around your boat/weight, az to how much performance U will see...Your stock port arrangement iz good to 8500rpm with sum tweek'in and tune'in with a 1400# boat with good set up...I'll give U sum numbers and thangz that will show U sum HP, but U will keep your motors usefullness...I'm sure this won't fly wit all tha pro'z, but it workz quite well for me...

Raise tha ports to 1.525 on tha exhaust, and 2.120 on tha intakes, widen the piston window to the width ov the intake window ov sleeve(260 piston specs), open outside rod slot to view intakes in sleeve, cut heads to 145#s comp(or find late model 2.0 heads and juss bolt them on), put wh-20 dual bowl carbs, or tha 245 HP carbs(this will hurt fuel economy, but inhance performance), 4 peddle rubbercoated cages wit/glass reeds(glass reeds for safety, not performance, I find tha steel reeds work better on tha river). Match the exhaust adapter to block and to tuner(OZ plate will perform better than stock 2 piece adapter), Long 2.5 offshore tuner(have to remove can) drill tha 10 holes in down house'in like perf merc....Leeve tha exzaust chest alone, it iz suffecient to let tha motor turn 9K in it's stock form...I would suggest that if ya don't have a mill and a good selection ov carbide cutters for ya diegrinder, to have a machine shop, or sumone that iz familiar wit theze cuts to do it...U kan do them, but without the proper tools, it will take 10times tha time and make'in tha exzact cut in all tha cyls bout imposible...Good luck, REX
