Would putting a stock 200 hp 1996 tuner in a 1994 150XR6 lg c. i. give me any horsepower increase. only mod. to motor is a set of fiber reeds. looking to get a few extra horses without to much modification . The tuner is a freebie.

any increase is doubtful

any noticable increase is even less likely

Some of the Merc 150's and 175's come with 14 inch tuners. If you have one of those, swapping for a 7 3/4 inch tuner will move your power band around some, meaning you will loose some bottom end grunt and may pick up 100 rpm (translates to 1 mph) on the top. The fiberglass reeds tend to overcome the bottom end loss inherent with going with a shorter tuner. In my opinion swapping one short tuner for another short tuner is a waste of time and money.

If you drop your lower unit and use a flashlight and look up in the midsection, you can tell which length tuner you have. The 14 inch tuner sticks almost all the way to the bottom of the midsection.

That both the motors you have use the same tunnas. The 96 Merc 200 has the 150style tunna, I belive. Look up the Exhaust housing before you change them. The 200 hp one has a bigger outlet, the 150 type has straight walls.
