Quick question...

1989 Mercury 200hp outboard (all stock). Hynautic (K-10) steering ram front mounted on the tilt tube. It has been installed since new. No corrosion anywhere and the engine was regularly greased and cleaned.

I have never removed one of these and figured I would check with the experts before I attempted it.

Is it hard?

How can I screw it up?

Do I have to remove the hydraulic lines to do it?

The motor is all de-rigged, except the steering ram. Should I pull the ram off now or after I remove the engine from the boat?

Should I let penetrating oil like mouse milk soak the fittings for a while before I even start?

Thanks for any comments...

:)

Hi there. Some of the times ya don't get a answer. I will try my best. I don't think it's a big deal to pull it off. The rod goes thru the hole where the steering goes thru and theres a bolt on the yoke that is held on with a nut. I would leave the hoeses on, just try not to kink them. Don'y be scared of any thing and next thing you will be rebiulding whole motors. ;)

Thanks Dave,

I know it seemed like a silly question, but I have learned the hard way to ask S&F before trying anything, just in case.

I am gonna pull it this weekend before I ship it, wish me luck...
