I am wanting to install a Torque tab to my skeg and was wanting to know the best way to install it. I have seen an old post where it was recommended to use one of 3m's adhesives but I don't remember which one. Also, have heard some say to rivet and other say to use the screws that came with the tab. Which is the best? Thanks for any help!

I got mine from Rick Racer and It's the rivit on style No problems so far. I plan to fill over the rivet holes with epoxy this spring when I repaint the lower unit so it will look like one piece!

....since about 1/3 of the tabs I've installed end up needing to be shortened due to too much correction. After I've got the tab to the right length I put on a light coat of JB Weld epoxy and then rivet it down. The excess epoxy is easily cleaned up with a little water or paint thinner, and I use what's left over to fill the rivets to flush. I just came across one I did in 1985 and it's still in place with no problems.

TNfishrman,
Hey its Titus, I do HP gearcases. The best way to put on tab is to weld it on. When you drill for rivets or screws it weakens the skegg. I do welded or I can do one out of hand-laid fiberglass. They both work the same, but some guys like to do their own, so I suggest use a two part e-poxy base adhesive. Its easy to use works well and easy to clean up. You can look at my site for other questions.www.low-h2o.com thanks

if you use rivits coat the back side with 3M 5200 adhesive sealant... that way it wont fall off if the rivets come loose and once the adjustment for torque has been totally adjusted use JB weld to blend and fill rivet holes to make it look like 1 piece..
