I guys JOYEUX NOEL HO!HO!HO!:D
I have some work to do on the bottom my little checkmate and i heard that a kind of smooth gravel guard style finish is good because of the (bubbles) it makes between the pad and the water. What you think about that?
Have a great CHRISTMAS!

Wet sand 120 grit finish will work well
Remember that Square corners and a flat surfaces are the key to fast bottoms
If your checkmates bottom has the 45 Deg trailing edge fill it in to make a sharp corner between the first set of strakes (minimum)

Thank you pulse! Are you sure it's 120 or you want to say 1200 grit after that do you wax or not?
For the cages how can i recognise the good ones and the junk?

You do not want the bottom of the boat very slick. I don't go as coarse as 120 but I do use 400 and 600. You want a slight texture to the bottom but you want it very straight and very sharp. No rounded edges or dips or bumps that aren't there for a reason. Work the last 4 to 6 feet of the bottom in this way and you should see a difference.
Don't hand sand, use long flat block..you want a slight cross-hatch when finished..be careful and don't remove anything thats there for a purpose..like to prevent porposing...When ya finish come on over,I was just thinking about doing my ally a little rougher..used 600 last time, using 360 this

Just sand it smooth make sure all the corners are sharp after you get done spray it with gray primer and leave it alone. the primer will leave enough surface to aireate the hull. Remember the boat goes fast through the air than water. the primer will build a cushion of air bubbles on the bottom of the boat. Kind of like an air hockey table works. You will reallly notice a big difference on the way the boat rides if donee right.
