Very! :D :) :p

Ran a 5K race (I'm the one with the dog) yesterday in 6" of snow, 15 degree temps, 20 mph winds and yeah it pretty much sucked!
After starting dead last so my dog didn't trip any of the serious (fast) people I (we) worked our way up to 35th place at the finish.
This was the first race I've done in seven yrs and used to be able to click off 22/23 min 5K's. I'm sure it was just the snow that slowed me down ;)
Funny thing was that I thought that due to the nasty weather that I might of had a chance at winning my age group. NOT!!
Appears there was a bunch of guys my age bored out of their minds yesterday!
Two people over 60 yrs of age even dusted our asses :)
Anyhow, thought this might give the rest of you guys with cabin fever something to laugh at.
It's 5 degrees outside today!

Don't feel bad today but slept most of yesterday afterwards!
I realized about 20 yrs ago that I'm too much of a tired ass to do anything else that gives me the same return on investment.
I bore too quickly and way too good at always having an excuse for blowing off what ever excercise I'm doing at the time.
I can walk out my front door, run 4 miles on the roads by my house, be showered and done in an hour. (and burn 500 - 700 calories)
Can't find anything else as quick and easy.
I should have taken ski's yesterday though!!
Best part was when I saw the finish line 50 or so yd's ahead so I start to "kick it" right bfore they guide us into the woods  That just about killed me!! All uneven, snow covered, branchs across the trail, up hill, down hill etc.
I thought that was it.
Was still a hoot though and better than sitting in front of the tube all day ;)

I brought the Sonic home from storage Friday, used scrap wood I found in my back yard to build a frame over it's cockpit and strapped tarps on it about ten minutes before dark and right before the snow started falling :p
Oh yeah, point being (think there's on here some where) I did all that so I can work on it thorugh the rest of this Winter so it's ready for action by Spring.
Both power heads are back to bare block stage and waiting to travel West to visit Dr.Stoker for a little bore work.
Nine more weekends to work on it before April (boating season).
We are gaining (here in Ohio) approx. 3 to 4 mins of day light every day.
Yeah, I'm to the point of looking for little tiny things for motivation and to keep me from walking in front of a speeding bus!

Pretty damn unique...sorry to see her go... Gator's Run (http://forums.screamandfly.com/Gallery/data/500/414gary1.WMV)
Hey Gator...what happens when you put a Mod VP bottom on a standard bowrider...we'll soon see... :D Franken MODVP (http://forums.screamandfly.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61081)
Instagator, your never grow old with a can-do additude! :D Better to have ran a race and get beatten by two 60 year olds then to sit around watching the boob-tube! I've gone out jogging when it's been 5 deg., thought I don't jog outside often, just for the hell of it. I'll also jogg on the beach when it's 95 deg. I wonder how manny people my age, 47, even think about doing those things? :D If you don't live Life Inexcess then you don,t really experence life!

agreed
Reese, I love that video of the boat running. Was really questionable conditions that day for what Iwas trying to do with that boat.
There is more vodeo of it rolling off the pad from cross winds and boat wakes than there is of it running straight
The good passes (one @ 99.9 and one @ 101.0) are awesome with the audio run through a good stereo with some serious db's pumping.
A Johnny @ 7500 sounds pretty damn cool I think.
I clicked on the link to your project and all I can say is, I'm totally shocked!!
What a feagin project! I liked you comment of "first and last" boat project.
I used to say if I got $100K for my Vector I would have made about .11 c. per labor hour :D
I am always amazed to see some of the talent on this board and your project is a perfect example of that. I have'nt been on here much lately to follow along but I am way impressed my friend. Looks like you have it pretty well thought out. How cool was it to get Jim Russell involved too???
On your pad size, I say go for it.
I used to have (don't have pix's on this puter) a 1969 19' Glastron Carlson Conquest which was a O/B cuddy cabin and very, very rare.
I can't remember exactly (had the boat in mid/late 80's) but I think that pad was 24" wide!!! It looked like someone screwed the kitchen table to the bottom of that boat.
But it freagin flew!!
Was way before affordable GPS but on a speedo it would run 77 MPH's with a slightly modified 235 cross flow. I repowered w/a new '89 GT 200 Johnny and it instantly buried the 80 MPH speedo needle!!
Boat actually did pretty damn good in rough water too. It crossed Lake Erie several times and some times in pretty nasty conditions.
Keep up the great woork and I'll try to get the time to follow along.
INXS, agreed 100% my friend. Frankly, I totally get off on seeing the "older" people that do these runs "kick my butt"!! I remember the first 5K I did probably 15 yrs ago I would have been about 30 and though I was pretty hot sh*^. Was running all the time and using a stop watch to work on my speed and conditioning.
Anyhow, thought I had a shot at winning my age group so I started up front with the fast guys. I had no clue what to expect for the fast guys and only knew that my best (at the time) was a "theoretical" 19:00 - 19:30ish.
Soon as we started, the fast guys were GONE!!! I mean these guys were running 3.1 miles at what were "sprint" speeds for me!! I had never experienced anything like that in my life. Was incredible!!!
I think I finished that race in the mid 23 min. range while the guy that won ran a 14:20 as I recall!! Basically like 4:30 miles!!
Best part was as the pack "ran away" from me I hear a "squeaking" sound coming up from behind me. A second later a guy passes me pushing a stroller with his freagin kid in it and one of it's wheels was squeaking and that was the noise I heard  :D :p
I decide I can't allow this to happen to me so I chase the guy back down and pass him. Just barely(!!!!), but did.
Then a minute or so later I start hearing "squeak, squeak, squeak". Guess who?? :D I had to work my ass off to keep that guy behind me the rest of the way!!
I used to challenge myself every year at my birthday to be in the best shape of my life. I did this succefully upto about 40 and just kind of got lazy and am just now fighting my way back.
My age may increase but I refuse to grow old!!

Bwaaaaaaahhhhhhh...
OMG that is the funniest sh*t... QUOTE..."Best part was as the pack "ran away" from me I hear a "squeaking" sound coming up from behind me. A second later a guy passes me pushing a stroller with his freagin kid in it and one of it's wheels was squeaking and that was the noise I heard"
Reminds me of the time my wife and I are hiking up to Half Dome in Yosemite...we were cold, tired and looking like two wipped dogs...just then elderly couple in their 50's passes us by we looked at each other and said...BS. We mustard all our energy and barely beat them to the top. Sad thing is they weren't even breathing hard.
Sorry Gary...but as much fun it is to talk about jogging  ...you will never escape the Rude...it's become a legendary part of S&F.

I really had a hard time letting that project go. Not the boat so much as the motor.
Worst part was then seeing the new owner with the heads off of it and some one else inside it measuring ports after I was promised that would'nt happen.
Never planned on letting it go but finances became so stressed with the failed Fla ordeal that it had to be sacraficed.
Hoping to get the Sonic motors close to that power level by Spring. Also have pretty much figured out how to add a pad to the Sonic's bottom also.
Keep thinking with everything right, I should be into the 90 MPH range with it which would be pretty impressive for a big ole Vee bottom pig.
It has already humbled several unsuspecting cat woners who assumed it was the typical 65 MPH Baja ;)
On the running story, yeah it still cracks me up to tell it. Was one of the first competitive things I had done since I quit racing boats. Was used to getting my butt kicked becuase I couln't afford competitive equip.
Then I was getting it kicked because I was fat and slow :D
About that same time I entered my first mountain bike race. Same deal. Practiced the same course we raced on, timed my laps etc, etc.
I remember being 3rd overall after about a quarter of a mile. Things went backwards in a big ass hurry after that. Remember struggling to climb one of three really difficult (per lap) hills after I had already shot my wad just getting to its base :) As I start my climb I see one of my competitors jump off his bike, throw it over his shoulder and "RUN" past me up the hill, jump back on his bike on top of the hill and tear off  :p
I finished the first five mile lap, stopped at my car and sat down and drank a bottle of Gatorade :D :)
Finally did get back on and finsh the second lap.
Anyhow, was really kinda neat getting your butt kicked and knowing you had no excuses or anyone else to blame but yourself.
