Just set a time.
Labor day weekend is awesome! I like the zoo as well as there are plenty of beaches to gather where there are no people, even on the crazy weekend. The only prblem would be getting reservations on a place to stay on the holiday weekend. The week before, or after into Spet works great as well.
I'm in just say when!

I am asking Joe from Powerboats NW to join as well tomarrow at the PDX boat show so he knows as well... that is unless 300x beats me to it. I also know for a fact that they sold a 117mph eliminator and maybe i could get the new interested in this site if he/she isnt already to go along as well.

So far it looks like this is going to be quite a rally. I like the weekend after Labor day. The weather is still hot th water is "Warmer"-(thats for you blkmtrfan). I'm allready counting the days. I have a few people who would be interested in this rally, who don't look at S&F.;)

Cresent Bar/Vantage would be great,
weekend after Labor day sounds good too.
If there is enough interest I can probably get Jim at nwoffshore.com to provide a forum for outboarders for events, but I know he won't mind if we just go on the General Discussion board to arrange something like this.
These posts on Scream&Fly get buried before many people see them.
There's my $.02

If it's going to be on the weekend after labor day, September 9,10,11
we'll have plenty of time to let every one know. We usually stay in Vantage but if everyone else will be in Cresent Bar will probably try to stay there.
Do you camp or stay in a condo Scott? The only problem I can see is that there is a group that wants to do a Poker Run on Lake Washington and another group that wants to do one on Coeur d'Alene(I even checked a map for the spelling and it still looks wrong?)Hopefully it won't be on the same weekend

And we HAVE to get Lee Davies to come!! I'm sure he'll bring his Allison, or GMT, or Seebold, Or Hoffman.
How about Steve Church??
Or Doughi.

Boy this thing is starting to take off like some sort of space shot. If you added the speeds together that all these boats are capable of, we would break the sound barrier. :D
Do they have water cops up there? Do we need to keep this a bit on the down low so we can sort of sneak up on the people who might be afraid of whatever there may be to be askeerd of. :D
Sure gives a guy something to look forward to.

Cant wait... Atleast i have a chance to camp!!! and it will be nice to meet everybody and put faces to screen names...
Im impressed at the rate in which replys got to this post..... 20 in about 6 hrs... not bad...
perhaps we can get greg to pin to page until details are finalized. so it doesnt get burried as fast.
feel free to forward the link to anyone that would like to come along... the more the marrier..
also if meeting at seattle show let everyone know where and when to meet at the show... I may be going up to shop at IKEA so I could make the hop skip and jump to the show. all depends on the blasted transmission in my truck......

As it's only some people getting together with boats for pleasure. We need to make sure we're not stepping on any toes or inflicting some sort of liability on Greg/S&F with the title/description for our high performance weekend.

ok call it a gathering of S&F members and friends then... I made the post so i will take any heat fron greg if any is due.... even if it was a consensus that a new post was needed to get word out... I posted the title so i will take the blame if it is worded incorectly...

I'm a worry wart and just wanted to make sure we weren't going off half cocked. As far as I'm concerned it's a S&F Rally but it occured to me that there may be another perspective to this that I hadn't considered.
Thanks for starting the new thread.
I think it might be cool to have a talk/com FRS/GMRS radio channel selected for those that have them so the group can coordinate activities and keep in touch at The Event. I just got a new set at FRYS for $25 including NiMh batteries and drop in charger.
Can't wait.

also maybe a VHF channel as well for those that have them or CB if people still use them... but definatly some form of radio comunication would be good as well as add some safety factor incase something major goes wrong... my VHF has telephone capibilities if i can hit a repater .... i am sure i can hit the local Law enforcements towers so emergency radio shouldnt be much of an issue.... Just trying to think of everything that could go wrong.... you all know ole murphy and that pesky law of his... 300X NO problem about the worry... but it does bring up a good point that we dont want to step on anyones toes or anything so with that said lets finalize the plans so we all can get ready for the upcomming boating season....

300x Stoker, yes there are water cops on the columbia river (usually just on the real busy weekends), but I have never heard of anyone getting a speeding ticket, they just seem to try to keep everyone from being overly stupid

I'll let you know what I fined out. I will also call them tomorrow. There office closes at 3 p.m this time of year. They are takeing reservations for the 2005 season now!

I just got off the phone with Iris, manager of the Crescent Bar Resort. I also talked to Dale Hill who operates the campground. Both of them were happy, we are planning such a event and want to cotribute! Summer rates are still in effect that time of year. Iris said she would give a "event discount" if enough people booked in advance. Summer rates are between $140 to $200 a night. If we get enough people to register (not a problem) and reference the S&F rally, she will lower the price per night to $125 to 150 a night, that weekend. Anyway it's a start. I will continue to update them with our progress, there may be more "perks" on the way for the S&F rally. Very nice people to deal with!!:)

01-13-2005, 03:26 PM
bostoncan, yes there are some area's to watch and ther river level does vary quite a bit, down by the bridge @ vantage, there are bunch of rocks, in fact I have never gone that far south just because of the stories. Up at crecent bar getting out of the boat launch can be trying if you are not watching, basically you launch and then go due west under the bridge and don't vary you course (there is a dredged channel) until you get to deep water. From there down the middle to the main "sanbar" is pretty good. You can also go east then south form the crescent bar boat launch on the "inside", most of the way it is a no wake zone but if you stay closer to the canyon wall it is deeper, then if you keep going south eventually you will come up on a small aandbar that needs to be taken wide to the west.
OK I guess I could ramble on for a while and confuse everyone, I will try to find a map of the area to post before our run. Basically there are some trouble spots, like anywhere boating in Washington, LOL. But once you know, you will be OK, BTW a depth sounder is a great idea ;)
Regarding, camping, the campground at crescent bar is very nice and I would recommed it and I believe there is a KOA in vantgage (never stayed there, but I am sure some of the down south guys can comment) I will more than likely do a condo, as my wife is spoiled and beyond the camping phase (it's my fault because I spoiled her, LOL). Plus there are hotels in Quincy (10 min away) and Wenatchee (1/2 hour away).
Vegas V that is great new's, one of the biggest problem with the resort condos is they usually demand that you stay a least a week during the summer, gald to see that Iris wants to help (not to be negative, but she ususlly isn't much help ;) )
Personally I am trying to get a privately owned condo lined up, if that dosen't work I will give Iris a call.

Buddy list??? I am confused as well, I must have push the wrong button, sorry, I don't even know when I did it  How do you put it back on? Is it part of the PM thing?

blkmtrfan- I'm glad the "buddy List" issue was a mistake! I know I have a way with people, but we haven't even met face to face:D
This is directed at anyone who is interested! As far as getting maps of the Crescent Bar Area(which is a good idea), you can go to the Corp. of Engineers web site or call them and access there maps and infomation on that area! They are very active in that part of the Columbia and keep there maps and information updated because the river does change every year! A "depth finder" is a good idea too, like blkmtrfan stated. DON'T LET THE RIVER SCARE YOU. If your informed about the area you will be fine!!;)

With a 15 minute session on where to go, you will not have any problems. I've been running Hi-speed in this area for 20 years, only dinged a prop once when I lost a water pump belt on a BBC and had to rush to shore.
The Condos mention by Vegas are great, and you can double up on them as they comfortably sleep from 4 to 8.
Go to www.selectrentals.com and you can check them out in detail!
There is also camping. I live about 3 hours from the area, so if anyone wants to come from a distance, I will help out in anyway I can.
Bill Mason, you have to come!
Looking forward to all!
It's huge flat water for a river and beautiful country. Lot's of sandy beaches!
Really not too far from CA, OR, AZ, UT, IL, WI, MN, ID, MT, what I miss?

Tell him that dosen't matter, my boat isn't that fast either (compaired to Larry Stoker, the STV's and such) and in fact a few years back when I was between performance boats I went there with a 21' walkaround cuddy fishing boat. I have stayed at the KOA in Vantage and at the State park, the State Park in Vantage is the best campground on the river, it's one of the nicest state parks around, it's called Wanupum State Park, it's a reservation park.
Now I'm the opposite of Scott, I have always boated from the south end of the lake, the scary stories I've heard were all about the north end, up the river from Cresent Bar. There is a big shallow spot in the area South of the I90 bridge straight out from the State Park, as long as you stay to the East side of the river after going under the bridge it's plenty deep, then as long as you go south of the park about 1/2-3/4 mile before crossing back to the west side you will have no problem, don't go straight across from the state park or north out of the park and you won't have any problem.
I may try and stay in Cresent Bar for this event since everyone else will be up there but the south end is nice it's only a 10-15 minute ride in the boat to anywhere on the river anyhow.
I did post a thread about this on NWOffshore.com and it sounds like we will have a few boats with car motors showing up :D :D

He bought the GMT at Lake Havazu last year. He spent all summer getting it ready and dialed in. It has the Merc raceing colors for gel coat also. It's a sweet boat. I also just remembered he has a 1999 20 stoker SST w/ 2.5 merc, 15'' mid, it's blue and white, beautiful boat. The eliminator is older 88' or 89' but the motors are beautiful.
How many guys in Bellingham run performance boats. We sould meet up there one weekend. It would be fun to get to know boats and owners in person, befor the "big rally"

From Tacoma going N on 5 taking 18 over to 90 it's about 2 1/2-3 hours to Vantage if you're going all the way to Cresent Bar it's probably about another hour maybe a little less. Vantage is exit 136 on I90 which means it's 136 miles east of the intersection of I5 and I90 in Seattle.

Caleb, that is kinda funny, I guess it is all in what you are familar with :)
montiboats24 and anyone else that hasn't been there, you don't have to go to crescent bar to make it to the "sandbar" across from the gorge, basically the gorge is just about halfway between crescent bar (north) and vantage (south) you can launch @ either place and meet in the middle. If you come ofer highway 2 (stevens) crescent bar is closer, if you come I-90 (snoqualme) vantage is closer.
Vegas"V" if we plan a lake whatcom day we sould be able to get at least half a dozen performance boats, 10 if everyone can get their act together, plus quite a few "normal" boat. The standard summer day on the lake consists of making a "flotilla" throw out and anchor ot two, raft together, bs and party, then throw in a couple of speed runs, see pic below:

I believe that the KOA campground in Vantage has a few motel type rooms and that's it for Vantage, there's a couple gas stations, a little store, the KOA, and the Petrified forest museum. Just looked for a link to the KOA in Vantage and it's not a KOA anymore, it's the Vantage Riverstone Resort here's a link
http://www.vantagewa.com/index.html
Ellensburg is 28 miles-1/2 hour away with lots of Hotels.
Here's a link to the State Park
http://www.parks.wa.gov/parkpage.asp?selectedpark=Ginkgo
At the south end of the lake there are 3 launch ramps, one at Vantage Riverstone Resort just north of I-90, one at Wanapum state park on the west side of the river 3 miles south of Vantage, one on the east side south of 90 towards the dam.
Bostoncan,
Just noticed you will be coming from Canada, it would be much closer for you to drive over the way Scott does and stay at Cresent Bar or the north end somewhere, it's only about 15-18 miles by boat from Vantage to Cresent bar but driving it is close to an hour, there is no road that parallels the River.
Hope this helps,
Caleb

DUDE I am bringing a 20' Alumaweld... with a 150hp merc... Top speed 52MPH at sealevel EMPTY!!!! so Hiperformance is only a reletive comparison between 2 like hulls... if I had a 14' car topper that ran 30 mph with a 15hp and you had the same boat and motor of identical size and weight and it only ran 20 mph would that 30 mph boat not be high performance.... it is reletive... the betterterm is Hotboats...
high performance is more about setup not top speed.

I will say that if you are in a smaller boat that you will want to launch at Cresent bar or Sunland, the run back to Vantage can get nasty if the wind kicks up and it can over there, it's a lot shorter run back to Crescent bar from the sand bar than back to the bridge in Vantage.
Just another thought for those of you who haven't been there,

Well, that is depending on the wind and direction. I have seen 6 foot ocean type rollers when the wind blows right down or up the river!
Even in those if you plow and keep the nose up you will survive! (as long as your engine doesn't quite)
You will be with people that know the river pretty good, and if it looks bad, we have places that are protected because the river has huge cloffs and lot's of bends.
I don't think I have ever been there in 1st part of September when the wheather was bad now that I think about it!
There is a motel in Quincy, motels in Wenatchee that is 28 mi north. The Condos are great!!! 150 a night two bedrroms sleep 8. Go in with someone on it!

Good chance the 25 Daytona will show up with us too. We will probably want to get in on the group rate at Crescent Bar.

They do, but they also get wet ....
The waves on the river are interesting, Larry is correct, more than a few times I have seen large rollers that are very much the size and shape of ocean "greeners", but for some reason, they aren't as scary on the river as they are in the salt (I do a lot of crusing in the san juans and gulf islands). You can also tell when they are coming. Basically the river runs north to south, when the wind is blowing (hard) exacty the opposite way striaght up the canyon, you get the rollers, but when the wind changes or dies down, they go away. Somethines this happens of a while every day, sometimes not for a whole week.
BTW GW Invaders ARE performance boats
As I said on the other thread, I am going to the Seattle boat show but I am taking the day off and going with my boy on Wednesday the 19th, most of you are going on the weekend right? Anyone working it that day? Let me know.

Yes the river can get very nasty. People die almost every year due to the wind whipped waves. When the wind kicks up, get off the river !! The wind ussually starts to p/u about 3 or 5:00 pm. Most of the time the river is beatuiful and calm. they can get a 50 mph afternoon wind. When I stay at the south end of the river by Vantage , I try to be off the water by 3 pm. The recommendation of staying at Cresent bar condo's or camp ground is the best. Then you are only across the river from the ramp and your camp. A few years ago a wake board boat got rolled by the waves, he waited too long and tried comming in after everyone else had went in. He got saved by a 26' wake board boat.
The main key for not running a ground on this river is to watch the caynon walls. The river will have a tall canyon wall on one side and a low slope on the other. Just dont foolishly go on the side of the river that has the low sloping land !! Stay towards the tall canyon walls. Pretty simple.

The best part about the river in that area is that like Larry said, "we have places that are protected because the river has huge cloffs and lot's of bends."
We'll find a place to have fun no matter what size your boat is. That's the great part because it's one of the few areas that large and small boats can go and have a good time together.

About 1/2to 3/4 miles north of the existing I90 bridge you can see where the old road went down into the water to the old bridge, before Wanapum Dam was built the bridge just crossed the river so it was much shorter than the existing I90 bridge, my mom remembers crossing the old bridge back in the early 50's, the original town of Vantage is now under the lake. I would guess that the ferry probably crossed in the same area.
Hope you can convince your family into coming over for the fun.

Boat Parking @ crescent bar: there is a locked gated lot a few hundred yards east of the "selectrentals" condos, which you can use for $15/night, the pass for it also works in the boat launch, so you don't have to pay for boat launch fees. If you stay in the campground, there is a lot there as well, and last, if you pay for the "overnight" launch fees (I think they are $15/day as well) you can leave you rig at the boat lauch without getting towed (however it is probably the least secure of the three. The downside to all three is they are gravel, so dust can be a small problem, bring a "California Car Duster" with you ;)

If you are just wanting to launch the boat and leave the truck parked there you can do that at the launch in Vantage, there is a big parking lot it is right by the freeway, I have launched there quite a few times, it will handle large boats(I've seen a 42 Fountain being launched there) I see on their website that Vantage Riverstone Resort is calling it their ramp but I think it is a county ramp, there is no overnight parking at the state park boat ramp. The boat ramp at Crescent bar is actually FREE. You only pay if you want to park your rig at the parking lot by the ramp.
If you get a camp spot, you can park your rig and trailer in the camp spot after launching your boat.
If you rent a condo, you have to rent a spot for your trailer as you cannot park it in the condo parking lot. Maybe we could get a good rate in the lockup area? There is a store at the top of the hill that will also store your trailer and boat over night (where you also get the Shell premium gas), but it is a hassel to take the trailer up there after after launching your boat, the lot by the launch, or the lock-up is easiest. If you were really going to launch one time and then camp on a beach somewhere, then you could use the top of the hill for your trailer and the lot by the condo for your car (pay there by the day, like 3.75).
Anyway, you have to reserve a condo at Select rentals (www.selectrentals.com), or reserve a camp site at www.crescentbar.com, select campgounds. If you checkout "condos" at the www.crescentbar.com site you will see me in the picture screwing around with my engine the day that it blew up (running on 5 cylinders)!!!
Get the reservations for the 9/10/11 of September and we will se you there!

I've been out of the "loop" for the last few days. It sound like things are progressing well. Like I stated before "We, are takeing over that weekend...stay out of our way". It sounds like there are allot of great boats showing up. It also sounds like there will be people stretched from Crescent Bar all the way down to I-90 and past.
Question...What do you guys think about organizing a "rallying point" and time somewhere on the river during the weekend. A place and time where we can "All" meet and be social. A BBQ social/ beer social or something, to get us all together at one time. That would be one hell of a sight and a hole lot of fun.... Just a thought!

There are no speed limits and not law enforcement in this area. The cops patrol for stupid stuff like drunks, people that don't stay 100Ft from shore while going fast, 100ft from any boat, 300ft from a boat with anything in tow, current tabs, etc.
The "bar" would be a great meet point, but we would need to haul a grill down if we are going to have a hot lunch.
In the evening maybe we can take over the bar at crescent bar and have a live band????? They have an inside and outside.
We could also arrange a golf afternoon??

Banks Lake is awseome.
Issues I have with it is it's camping or hotels. I really prefer condos, and enough to house all in one area. Crescent bar has the condos, the camping, drinking bar, boat ramp, and golf course all within 1 block walking. The river is long and wide, very good for running.
It is also about two hours closer than Banks. There is NO rock issue, with 10 minute converstaion and just common sense in the crescent bar area, from the dam up north two the bridge down south, probably 12mi or runnin
With that said, I would take either for gathering, just prefer the river

We do it every year, it's just a call and money. Easy to do once we have a comfirmed head count and money commit. Golf is easy, meet at 9.
relax lance. If people are willing to come from far away, I am willing to put in the time to show them some good hospitality.
I even have a band lined up that will work for speed runs.....

BUT that is the same nomatter where you go boating do stupid things stuff breaks.. I just got a NIX on my pad plans for my boat .... $1300 for the materials for pad alone, not including the strakes and other mods i was going to make.... so now just paint... unless it is a 4 diget project as well..... but still planning on comming... so far

Nick,
It don't matter if it's painted, just bring it.
Larry,
Don't have a problem with dinner at the bar but I agree with everyone else, let's not get carried away, I don't golf so the golf tournament doesn't matter to me, at 9:00 I plan on getting ready to put the boat in the water. We don't get over there that often so I want to run my boat. The dinner sounds ok unless you need a bunch of money up front with an exact head count, these kind of things aren't any fun if only 1/2 the people that show up can get food because they didn't pay in advance or if the person setting it up(sounds like you ;) ) gets stuck with a great big bill because the weather is bad and no one shows up.
Getting some one with a pontoon that can bring a barbeque would be great, it would be wonderful if we could put together some sort of either pot luck or bring your own meat and barbeque it event for lunch.
No reason we couldn't have a big barbeque for dinner at the campground if there isn't some way to get food at the bar, the other thing I see is that some people are bringing children, can they eat in the outdoor area at the bar?
Sounds like we are going to have a great turn out and a good time.

BELEAVE ME IT DOES.... The boat got wedged between two other boats by My dads Lawyer for his business while fishing in Tillamook this fall... Great big gouges in hull and 1/2" wide sections of paint striped 2/3 the length of the hull... It's pride is broken and consiquently it dont run as good, need to freshen up and it runs better.. ....dont ask ... it just runs better for some reason all waxed up and pretty... It looks like paint is cheaper than hull so may have to wait untill it becomes fully mine (currently own 2/3) to do hull
Still planning on it anyway just trying to get a head count for my party, may bring whole family (7) we will see it may end up just being me and my wife.

Let's keep things simple... I don't think we want to complicate this event. That was not my intention when I suggested geting everyone together. It would be fun to get everyone together at one time during the weekend and be social, nothing more nothing less. It does not have to be a all day event. If people want to BBQ that's great, if they want to go run there boat thats fine too. So, my suggestion is if your interested, Rally at the "Bar" at High Noon Saterday the 10th. Bring your food/drinks if your hungry. That will be quite a sight!

Depending on weather there should be room for all of us at the sandbar for the day, I kinda figured we could all get a spot on the sand at the sandbar, hang out, and take rides in each others boats. Maybe take a cruise to the ends of this section of the river, I've never made it all the way to the Dam at the north end, maybe some one can lead me there.
Maybe I can take Scott down to the south end of the lake and show him some water he hasn't seen before. :D :D

Now if ya want to have some fun there is some great Carp shooting in the area !!! The Bow and arrow type, lots of fun !!!! Sure is fun to have a 20lb. carp on a string !!!! Vantage has two gas stations with 92, but not on the water. The gas stations are right above the boat ramp. Easy to pull out each night and gas up if you are camping there. They have lots of tent space at the lower level and full hookups for campers and trailers at the upper level. Seems like Cresent Bar would be more fun with the bar and restaurants right there. I just hate how they have to gouge you for everything there.

I just made my reservation at the Crescent bar campground. $ 36 per night. The lady said that there is lots of spaces left in the campground. Note; the campground and the condo's are different companys. There computer server was down today. Here is the campground # incase the web site is down for a while. 800-824-7090 & 509-787-1511 There is dock rental spaces available. about 20 dock spaces. most people just pull their boats up at the sand beach or anchor out a few feet. Note the campground has nice tent spaces on the water and RV spaces that can hande 45" rv's. I got one of the 45" rv spaces . Sould be plenty of room for my small RV and boat. Make your revervations while there is plenty of spots left. They will go fast. I asked about gas. She said that there is mid grade gas on the water but premium is up the hill. I am thinking of buying a gas dolly.

I was at the Boatshow last night. I talked to a guy at NW powerboats and asked if they knew about the rally. He said "he had" and to keep them posted. I asked if they came, would they bring down some boats (I'd like to see the Outerlimits w/twin sterlings, 130 mph and only $750,000) he said maybe, but didn't know at this time. He did say that he and others at NW will get the word out to customers and others in the area, so thats good for us.:D
Blackmtrfan, I tried to fine a Activator web sight but had no luck. I would like to fined out more about the Activator line of boats. Can you help me out:)
Did you guys check out the Merc "Verado", that motor must be 7' tall. At 650 lbs I don't know many boats that could handle that kind of weight (HydroStream Vallaro YT). I think Merc needs to develop there version of V-Tech. That OMC 2 stroke technology is going to make 4-strokes obsolete and disappear in the next few years, in my opinion. I would love to see Merc apply that kind of technology to there Hi-performance line. Could you imagine a 2.5 280hp that burns oil like a 4-stroke. I would love to see it, and don't tell me they can't do it, they can. Hi-performance 2-strokes on lake's after 2008! that would really piss off the "Bark eaters" and be iceing on the cake for guys like you and me:D :D

Yes!......this is what I was waiting for......awsome. I live in Everett and don't know anybody first hand from the board. It would be great to meet some S&F people who have the same addiction for outboards and boats as I do. I own 2 boats and I'm thinking about a 3rd to get my speed fix. One boat is a slow 26ft Sport Fisherman (salt, moored at the Everett Marina) and the other is a bassboat. The bassboat has a Merc 200 fishin motor that thanks to the S&F crew sounds gooooood. This would be a great vacation to meet people and check out boats.......fun! As far as alternate locations,.... Potholes gets trashed from all of the partygoers during the holiday weekend and tends to lack in the flat water area for running. Banks Lake is a great place with lots of camping and hotels and flat water. It also has 92 octane at the dock. I have never been to Crecent Bar and it sounds like another cool place so I hope this spot works out. I think without the snowfall this winter that most places will be running on the low water side.

water this year should be tight... but they have to spill for fish down low up intill the first of august which dranes the upper river starting with lake rosevelt which is starting this year off low and probably will not fill if anything we might have to move down river as far as below bonneville dam to have water as most of the 140 mile fron the dam to the ocean is with in sea tide reaches.... or we would have to at a minimum go as far down as the Mcnary pool near hermiston or boardman as that is still " navicable" (sp) waters for ocean going vessles and must maintain a chanel depth of 40 feet...

Heres a few picts of my setup. Feel free to stop in for a beer. I will have the motorhome, and blue STV trailer, and F350 ford work truck( Greater Seattle Home Inspection on back)

I had a slight lower unit problem on Saturday, ran great all day and in the evening went to take a couple guys for a ride, got about 1/2-3/4 of a mile accelerating through 94 MPH, 6400 RPM lost a propblade, non labbed very heavy prop, bent large propshaft, other blade hit cavitation plate, wiped out bearing carrier. Amazing vibration, never felt that bad of vibration in a boat.
But wonderful weather. Do need to get speakers back in boat, it was a long 5 miles back to the boat ramp without tunes against the tide on one motor.

Hi All
I was just directed to this thread.
I'm new to the Portland area/NW
I read a few pages in this thread and now have 1 question.
Is there a description of this event, all in one place, that tells when, where and how?
All the details etc. in one place.
I just read like 5 pages and haven't figured it out yet.
Thanks

When ; the weekend after labor day weekend
Where: Columbia river, Cresent bar area. Eastern wa. The cresent bar area is about 20 miles north of where I-90 crosses the columbia river in Vantage.
Lost of High performance boats mostly outboards, but all are welcome. should be family friendly, and just lots of hot boats taking over the area that weekend.
I know the post has gotten really large, but all the campsite, hotel, and general info is here.

It in not the "gorge" you are thinking where everyone wind surfs between WA and OR,
It is in the middle of WA where the "gorge" ampetheater is.
But now that you montioned it, it can get windy once in a while ;)

The wind will p/u in the afternoon sometimes. Usually about 3-5:00 if it does. Some locals have told me that it only gets windy when the weather is bad west of the mountians. I dont know if this is true, but will be watching to see if its true. The wind can get up to 50 mph and put 4' rollers on the river. primarily near Vantage . You can have rough water at Vantage and great water a Cresent bar all at the same time. I recomend staying in the Cresent bar area. You dont want to have to do the trip in the boat back to Vantage every day. although we did on Memoral day weekend and it only took us about 10 minutes to get back from cresent bar to vantage. @ 100 mph + What a rush.

You are going to beat the hell out of yourself and the boat trying to go fast. A 21 Daytona no problem. Maybe your boat does better than the Stoker.
If there is no wind you will have more fun.

300X I have driven his boat.. it rides OK and handle descent at speeds less than 65 but above that it doesnt like to steer and basically slides on the pad.. nothing to hook and turn the hull.. bout the only boat I have driven that handles chop at speed on that section of river was a 312 stinger... as for chop the sleek is a bit low slung for big chop and cross waves.. so i understand his concern totally.. just have to get a good ribbin in when I can...

I've never made it to the Portland run before but am taking my little twin outboard tunnel this year. I can tell you that the wind waves aren't the biggest worry, it's when you've got a whole bunch of large, heavy, fast boats that are churning the water up in front of you and you get waves that are in the same direction you are traveling that it get's real dicey. I would think that if you normally boat in the same location that you will be fine. You just really have to pay attention to the boats around you and don't get caught up in all the adrenelin that will be pumping as you're running along keeping up with a boat twice your size when you shouldn't be going that fast and you find the big wave that's the reason you shouldn't be going so fast. :D
I've actually been told more than once that there are more than 2 positions on the throttle's   , haven't been able to find more myself but with some self control and knowing what your boat can do I'm sure your boat would be able to make the Portland Poker Run, you will probably get wet but you will have a good time.
The fun run we have in Bremerton is very rough on the outside of Bainbridge Island and when we started doing it we all had 17'-21' boats we didn't go around the island as fast back then but we had just as much fun, I actually miss my old Hydrostream, it was so easy to clean up after a run that we used it more often, it was also a whole bunch more friendly at the fuel station.
Hope to see you at the Portland Poker Run, even if you don't do the run I would come out and watch everybody go by, it's fun to watch some of the really fast boats.

It's the cross wakes that concern me and having so many boats in proximity.
I ran a 28 Nordic the other day, I had to back off the throttle twice for wakes from traffic but I reeled him in and walked him. Now that with 40 boats could be a little hectic.
I suppose we can do it.
I haven't planned on winning any races since I met Rock it Man in Grants Pass and he showed me his 155 MPH single engine Cat.
Maybe we'll get lucky and get some good poker hands.
I'm glad to hear I won't be the only outboard doin it, even if I am the smallest..
(at 20' I may not even be the smallest).
I'm definitely wearing a life jacket and kill switch, a helmet is probably overkill, huh?

You should just wait until the big guns leave and the water levels out a bit, remember it's not a race... ha-ha yea right. I had that exact model boat for 15 years and it will do much better hammer down @ mid trim NOT bow down in rough water.

Again, why would any body run in the rough with the nose down? A Vee bottom maybe under the right conditions but NOT a mod vp.
I ran 16" of set back, 2" above the keel, mid to upper trim zone and 8"-12" chop the boat ran very nice because your running on the back 1/3 of the hull instead of transmitting all of the wave inpacts to the entire bottom surface of the boat.

Hey Danno,
There is a speed skier in Eagle Creek w an SST race hull w burnt piston, I thought his name is dan, is that you?
If it is, maybe you can sell Nick the hull so we can race at unrestricted RPM levels.
Billy Chinook sounds fun, I will think about making it for a Sat or Sun Day trip, depends what the wife has planned. maybe I can get off leash.
I spoke to Tim last night (about PPR) if I'm coming I'll get a few cell #s and and track ya'll down.
Since I'm retired for 5 more days, and the sun is coming out, I'm going to head down to the Wilamette and play for a few hours.

Jeff never claimed anything... this boat just does it... will take pics of her today if you want... onwater tomarrow IF the thruhull dries... it CAN and DOES turn 7200, DOES run a 26P , DOES only have 9.5% slip... DOES have 1.86 gears... theres all the numbers... and EVERY speedo that was ever put in the boat has found its way to the stop... If you heard it you would understand... I havent EVER heard another yamaha sound the way this one does... Iknow it is hard to believe but maybe a GPS pic would settle things for ya... will see if i can get that as well....
ALSO if you know Jeff you know what his brother is..... Washington State Trooper, and every boat that is built as a demo gets recorded by the radar gun...

I know Jeff but I have no idea who his brother is, I have never heard of him.
Heck the mechanic Grant has a great reputation for building Yamaha’s. Last time I was actually at their marina was in August of 2002. They rebuilt a gearcase for me and since I Okayed reusing the same ole housing after it spun the carrier it had no warranty. They told me that up front, but it only ran about a ½ hour and that was $900 down the pisser.
I hear Jerry Chichetti works for them now, he use to be an Allison dealer and lives here in Kennewick.
No offence but the Skeeter running 86.1 is just something I would have to see to believe.
