Well after 5 years and 2 sinkings I have finally lost my evinrude 95 225.Now it is time for a rebuild and I would like to know how to get approx 280 reliable horses out of it.I ski-race this thing and need plenty of torque off the line and all the way through.Any help would be appreciated in terms of what to do and what parts to use.Thanx guys

There will be lots of suggestions, some good ones, some not worth the time it will take to read them.

Let me be the one to give you the best info you're gonna get. If you really want 280 (reliable) hp and still have strong torque, send it to Johns Custom Marine and have Al Stoker build it for you.

There's a lot you can do yourself, just be willing to do it several times, keep your cell phone so you can call for a tow, and have about a dozen pistons balanced when you do the first set of six. You'll need the others as spares and they will already match the weight of the ones in the motor.

You cant go wrong with having Al. build you motor. My motor really screams !!!! When you ask all the internet motor heads what to do to your motor to make 280 reliable HP. you will be getting second hand information, that they originally got from Al. Stoker. Its well worth the money to have it done right the first time and have your motor better than new.
Al. built me a very nice reliable 279.3 hp. "dyno". Since the rebuild I have also added Stokers custom off set chamber heads. I think this will put me around 300 + HP., but would have to ask Al. how much HP the heads added from the original dyno #'s. Adding the heads added some noticable torque, especially inj the mid range.

His prices are very fair

The only high perf parts you will need are tighter heads, intakes (I think your years has the restrictive ones) fiber reeds, and big bore carbs if you have a light boat. They made a "gold" light weight flywheel if you need that.... and V stacks. Most of the HP gain is in the porting, finger porting. Balancing adds some reliability. I hear Alan Stoker is very good, and so is Galen Burden. If you want to do it yourself you have a long road (lot of work and research, etc). I have seen people do it, but it takes a lot of conviction!

Thanx for all the help fellas.Unfortunatelyy I live in Australia so it makes it hard for me to get an engine built by Al.I guess I might have to suffer with stock performance since their arent too many in Australia that have Al's knowledge.Wonder what it would cost for Al to ship an engine over.hmmmm.Oh by the way I must say that this is a fantastic place for boaters.Everyone is so helpful on Scream and Fly.thanx again to you all

Put it on a crate and fly it across. I bet the turn around and price for the whole job would be similar to here. Guy's garage doesnt count. ;)

You might get a hold of Wayne Taylor at madefi. He does a good job on omc's and has shiped motors around the world. :)
