Has anyone converted a 2.5L merc. power tilt and trim to go on to a mariner?
My mariner has three wires for the switch and the merc has only two. If anyone can help i would appreciate it.
are you trying to make the 3 wire fit on the 2 wire or the other way ?

The Merc and Mariner use the same system. You must have one from a different year model. The 3 wire uses solenoids, and the 2 wire uses relays. You would need to convert all of that over. It would be easier to find the correct year model trim motor.

It's not hard to do. You will need to use 2 relays, instead of the solenoids, as stated above. I can get you a relay kit that converts from a 3-wire to a 2-wire. It's $55 plus shipping.

Can I get a wiring diagram for the change over kit? And also I have four tilt and trim switches, 1 on the bow, 1 on the transome, one foot control under the console and the one on the shift control, will these still be operational? I am putting this on an '86
150 mariner magnum. Will this newer trim system be faster than the old stock one?
If we can get more info. I would be very interested in the relay kit.

I tried to copy a wiring diagram for you, but for some reason it won't transfer over here when I click on paste. But anyway, each relay is activated by the same green and blue wires that you currently have coming out of your engine harness back at the motor. So when any of your switches are put in the up position, the blue wire with white tracer will be positive and this will activate the positive relay to open it's circuit to positive while the other relay stays at negative. When you activate the down switch the small green wire with white tracer will be positive and it will activate the down relay to positive while the other relay stays at negative. It's pretty simple: to make the engine trim up, the big blue wire from the trim motor goes to positive while the other green wire remains at negative. To go down, the big green wire goes to positive while the big blue wires stays at negative.
Hope this helps.

Sorry, I forget to answer your question about trim speed. I haven't noticed any great difference in the speed of the 3 wire vs. the 2 wire. But if your 3 wire doesn't work...the 2 wire will be much faster!!!

SOSMERC will there be a wiring diagram for the relays in the kit you have or can you email me one
[email protected]. If you don't mind could i get a phone # to call and discuss the purchase of the kit.

You can call me at 360-275-4690. I'm in Washington State.
The kit should have a diagram with it, but if not I will provide one.
There's only 6 connections to make. One red to positive. One black to ground. One green with white tracer to engine harness green/wht. And one blue with white tracer to engine harness blue/whit. And one larger green connects to large green wire from trim motor. One larger blue wire connects to other blue wire from trim motor. It comes with its own fuse setup.
