Anyone have any tips on removing a stuck powerhead. Our 150 Merc V-6 won't budge at all off the mid. All 10 nuts are off and so is the lower unit.

Thanks.

If the lower unit is removed then it must be the powerhead studs are frozen in the midsection. You need to break out the torch and heat the casting where the studs are located. Keep pressure on the engine hoist when you are doing this and try not to melt anything. Please be careful of any gasoline related componets!

I had the same problem with a 2.5 260 offshore: The powerhead studs were corroded stuck in the adapter plate. I asked on S&F for advice and was told to try to put something below the stuck stud nut and screw the nut downwards to drive the stud and powerhead upwards. Be aware, though, that the powerhead will make a jump when it comes off (or the boat and trailer will fall down).

The solution: Put lots of grease on the studs when you reassemble. (From Raceman who learned it on a Florida saltwater engine)

We use the mercury soft seal on the studs, a little messy but works
