View Full Version : Need quick advice about E-Bay/Pay Pal transaction

I've never used Pay Pal before and just sold an alto saxophone on E-Bay. The buyer waited until the bidding was almost closed and bought it for the starting bid; there were no other bids. I got the e-mail notice, sent an invoice, and they paid within about 15 minutes via credit card. I have not upgraded to a premier Pay Pal account to receive the payment yet. Once I do, and offload the money into my checking account, am I safe? Can Pay Pal come back to me if something goes to hell, or is that between the credit card company and the buyer? Am I safe to ship it? The buyer's address is confirmed and he is supposedly buying it for his daughter for Christmas. I don't want to delay a Christmas present (going to be a photo finish as it is), but don't want to get screwed out of $800 either. Help!

Hey Ron, once you have the money in you Paypal account you are pretty safe. Paypal is 99% on the sellers side and 1% on the buyers side. I have tried 3 or 4 time to get my money back on things I bought that were never shipped to me and even that wasn’t a good enough reason for Paypal to refund me.

Ron,

If it's in your PayPal account, you are good to go. Ship the sax.

Ron,
Hope you don't mind me jumping on your thread but I have a question about Paypal also, I purchased some props in June they still haven't been delivered, the seller told me he is going to send me my money back on Paypal if he can't get the props delivered, my questions are, will I be able to get my money out of Paypal or will I just have a credit with them? Also how much is this going to cost me, he's had my money for 6 months and I don't think it's fair that I won't get all my money back

Thanks,
Caleb

As soon as the money hits your paypal account. Withdraw it. Always a possibility of a charge back, legit or not. If the money is not in the Paypal account, you are much better protected. I personally almost always pay with a card through Paypal for eBay. You can turn right around and pay the card online. I haven't had any luck with Paypal guarantees, the credit card companies can help then. Unfortunately Paypal does not refund without getting there cut of the pie, normally a regular charge is deducted from any payouts. It takes a little extra time to protect yourself online and I will bet you need the protection at some point.

Paypal will usually only chargeback for confirmed addresses, keep the tracking number and your fine. all paypal want to know is "was it shipped?" if it was they don't car if you sent a plastic toy saxophone. as for the props. what I've always done was splite the paypal cut with the person. don't forget when you paid, the seller lost a cut as well. so i always refund the full and let the receptant deal with the fact that they lost the same amount i did.

Jay R.,
I would agree with you on sharing the costs but in this case these were supposed to be new props, the person selling them has been telling me they were shipped and then when I ask where they are I get a message saying they will go out by the end of the week.
This has happened a few times, I don't feel that I should absorb any costs of doing the transaction, the seller agree'd to paypal to get his money quicker, if he didn't want to asorb that cost he wouldn't have agree'd to it.
Just wondering if there was a way I could get all my money back if he can't deliver the props, I would much rather have the props that I've been waiting for 6 months for. This "gentleman" has a good reputation from the posts I've seen on this board and I just keep hoping for the best and that he will deliver the props.

Thanks for letting me vent,
Caleb

Caleb,
If you paid with a Credit Card, call the CC Company and start the proceedings to dispute the payment. They will refund your money and lean on Paypal to yank the cash out of this jokers paypal account.
After 6 months you waited about 5 months too long for the "Nice guy" .

I start getting real nervous after about 10 days myself unless there's some real good and constant communication.

Good luck.......
