Is there a difference between stock preload and non preload V-6 merc gearcases. I have all the needed parts to assemble a non preload gearcase and need to know if there are differences between the two cases or are they the same?
Thanks, Carter Powell

The preload gearcase has the bearing race installed before the driveshaft bearing. With the non-preload gearcase, the driveshaft bearing is installed first, then the bearing race, then an outer threaded nut to hold the bearing race in place. They are not interchangeable.
