Porsche Boxster S with some minor mod's- mostly suspension. Used to have a string of 5.0 Litre Mustangs that I would run on the street and at some local dragway's. Last one I had ran low 11's on spray- and it was street driven. Also just got a VW bug that I plan on some big motor- I want to be able to yank the front wheels!!!

A few weeks ago, I bid on a Shelby Durango on ebay. I was high bidder but no sale. Sent the guy an email for price but no response. They only made 300 of them in 1999. This one was bright blue with white Shelby stripes. Lowered 2WD with 20 and 22 inch rims. 360 with kenny Bell supercharger (factory option). Carbon fiber dash inserts. Four bucket seats with Carrol Shelby embroidered signatures on each. Drop down DVD player. They listed, when new, for just short of $60k. Would have looked real good in my driveway.

At the local track( Desoto Speedway= 3/8 mile oval) they have Fan Participation races. Its fun as hell. The Pure Stock class runs 19 to 20 second lap times and I was clocked at consitant 18 second lap's.I have this on vhs-c video .I need to get it converted to dvd.You guy's would **** your pants if you saw it.I started last and was in first place by the end of the second lap.I said screw it and just drove the hell out of it.When I stoped at the start-finish line for the trophy and interveiw all four wheel well's had smoke rolling out of them from my brakes. They faded away after the third lap:eek: .It was so much fun.I'm going to race the Harley truck there next season. :D SHH! Its only a lttle metal or some paint. It can all be fixed if ya scratch it.I love it when people get all excited over little things like a new car or truck and they have to go out and buy seat covers. My trucks for example have very expensive leather seats and swade in the Lightning. They are so nice to look at and touch.I cant see paying all that money for a nice vehicle and not getting to enjoy it.I dont care what the seats look like when I'm selling it.Thats part of buying something used. They just have to deal with it.In the meen time I'm going to enjoy my seats and my high horse power engine.Thats why I bought it.I have high coverage insurance so these things dont matter to me mutch.I understand your point nut I would rather haull ass and burn rubber.I'm a bit of a show off If you havent allready noticed,Hence the Nik name ...Hot Shot. Its only money You cant take it with you when yopu die and you never know whenthat will be so live it up while you can.Enjoy the things in life that you love and dont worry too mutch.Ok I'm done now  :D

Also-when I built the front end on this car, I made it to where it is adjustable for awesome cornering ability. Maybe I need to bolt on some wheels, adjust the front end, and try the circle track thing with Rob!

FERRARI, can't really see inside the "shield", but I'd bet there's a proud stallion in there somewhere... No other piston driven engine sounds as flawlessly passionate as an Italian V-12.... The Ferrari logo is referred to as "Prancing Horse". I've never seen a Ferrari with the logo on the guages. Definately the Lambo bull on that emblem.

The fastest late model stocker I have is Viper GTS. Fastest early model stock (restored) is 69 L88 Corvette, although LS6 Chevelle and LS6 El Camino aren't far behind. Fastest non stock is 69 Camaro with LS7 crate motor. My friend's F40 makes my stuff seem like just boring old cars.

NYS, tell me about it. I built a 40 X 50 shop at my lakehouse about 5 years ago and it's so full you can't walk in it and have to drag junk outside to get a boat out. Workin' on anything in there is out of the question. I'm gonna try and build a 50 X 80 at the new lakehouse if I can get zoning approval. I thought all cars took up a lot of space, but boats on tralers are much worse. You can put 3 to 4 cars where 2 STV's on trailers fit.

all i want is one of these... a hot lt5

... 431 C.I. full race version of the LT5, 4 cam 32 valves 900 HP. Fresh air is forced in from the high pressure area in the front spoiler, through a custom ram air system, directly into twin 90 mm throttle bodies. Air is now directed through 16 siamesed runners into the custom fullrace heads utilizing oversize titanium valves and retainers with ultra lightweight solid lifters, custom springs, and the ability to flow almost 400 cfm of air through the fully ported heads down into the cylinders where the air is mixed with fuel from 16 MSD injectors. The mixture is compressed with the help of ultra high compression aluminum pistons moved by titanium rods connected to a steel billet stroker crank. Power is then transferred through a Mc Leod 9 lb. flywheel and a 11 inch adjustable pressure plate and solid hub slider clutch disk. The 5 speed Lenco transmission moves the power to a fully fabricated 9 in rear built by Tom's Differential and handled by a 4 link suspension that plants the tires to the track to propel the world's fastest ZR1 to a mid 8 second quarter mile at 160 mph. WE RUN NO NITROUS, NO TURBOS, NO BLOWERS, NO BIG BLOCK, NO AUTOMATIC, WE DO IT THE HARD WAY. But we do use the best people and parts this is a list of what helps make this car run.

1969 Lotus Elan Plus 2

http://www.geocities.com/trevorsparrow/elanplus2/elanpages.htm

Arguably the best handling car of its time. The best brakes of its era, based on Road & Track data. 118 HP 1.6L 4 cyl with twin cams, headers, and Weber carbs. Basically 60's race car technology. The Plus 2 cost as much as a big block Vette back then so they weren't big sellers.

1999 Miata 10AE

http://www.teampointless.com/zbigpics/10aebp.htm

Best power to weight ratio of any non turbo Miata.
The car of choice for frustrated Lotus owners and Lotus wannabes.

I am consistent. I have two underpowered 4 cyl sports cars and a little XR4 on my Allison.

The fun part about both cars is that they are fun to drive slow and fun on track day. I've drive C5 Corvette's and Vipers. To have fun off the track in these is to put my license in serious jeopardy.

The hardtop is on the Miata and I think the snows go on this weekend. Bring on winter.

1Bad, that ZR1 you pictured looks pure stock to me. I bought one of those cars new in 1990, serial #426 which was actually a very early car. Later in the year I ran across a 90 Callaway that a local doctor bought and didn't like and bought it also. The Callaway would smoke the ZR1. I kept the ZR until about 96 or 97 and lost 30 grand on it. I kept the Callaway until about 99 and sold it for what I paid for it. Needless to say I prefer Callaways although the ZR was a neat car.

SMS, I've posted pics of the L88 somewhere here before. My scanner and computer don't get along anymore, so I can't put em up right now but maybe next week I can get somebody to scan some pics. I've also got a a 69 L89 Corvette that matches the L88 in almost every way except the L88 has leather and the L89 has vinyl. Both are Riverside Gold coupes with side exhausts. Both have been to Bloomington, the L88 in 1988 when they had the L88 Reunion and the L89 the next year. I've shown em a good bit as a pair back when I useta' waste my time and money showing cars. They were both painted in laquer in the mid 80's (for the sake of correctness) and they're both getting some crows footing now and could stand to be stripped and painted, but still look excellent from about 10 feet.

Current pair project: a pair of 70 Fathom Blue/white stripes LS6's. One is an El Camino, the other a Chevelle. Both have the original engines and tons of paperwork. El Camino has bright blue interior and Chevelle has black. I wish they were matched that way also, but I never change the original color on one. The El Camino has been back from the paint shop for over a year and the Chevelle is there now. So much crap to work on, so little time and energy.

Raceman would love to here more about your Chevelle and Camino. I had a 69 camino 396 375hp car. Can't remember the engine code. Bought it when I was 15 and put a 305 in so I could learn how to drive. That took about 3 months wreak the car spent 3 months getting parts and 6 months in paint. Painted it LeMans blue no strips. # base coats and 6 clearcoats it was gorgous but sold when I got married and bought a bass boat.

Dotz, when I was in my first year of college and dirt poor, one of my friends who'd just graduated and gotten a job ordered a new 396/375 Chevelle. It was Lemans blue also. It had 373 gears and an M21 and we thought it was a rocket.

My Chevelle was sold new here by the local dealer. I bought it on my birthday in 1981 in a drunken stupor in a grocery store parking lot with the promise of the "original motor" back from his buddy the next day. Only problem was, next day the buddy didn't see it that way and it took me about 3 or 4 years to get it. It's never been back together since I've had it. I sold it about 10 years ago in the middle of a storage crisis and bought it back about 3 years later. The guy I sold it to didn't make any progress either. It's very close to ready to paint now and if I'd push the bodyshop a little I'd probably have it by January. Problem is I don't have room.

The El Camino came here in 1970 with about 5K miles on it and had 6 local owners before me in about 1983 or 1984. The original engine had been removed from it also, but a local car restorer had found it and I got it with the car. The car guy had bought it and several other cars, gotten them mostly apart and lost his enthusiasm and was movin' on to another hobby. I didn't fool with it for a long time, but got it back from the paint shop a couple of years ago and it's got the best paint of any car I've ever owned. It came FROM THE FACTORY with the LS6, M22 Muncie and 410 gears, making it REAL unusual for an El Camino. The LS6 was much rarer in the El Camino than the Chevelle, and even so, most of the LS6 Caminos I've seen advertised had the turbo 400 auto instead of the "rock crusher" 4 speed. I pulled the chassis and did it and the drivetrain in it in the mid 80's and then put it in storage and that's as far as it got.

As Paul Harvey would say, "now for the rest of the story". (long) The car restorer guy I bought the El Camino from had 3 cars he was selling: 1st, the El Camino, which was my first choice since it was all there including the original drivetrain. 2nd, a 69 Corvette convertible that was an original 427/435 car with many of the original components, BUT the original block gone. 3rd, a 69 big block Camaro. I was a rough ole' body with a lot of documentation, but NO drivetrain. There was a tale of the complete engine having been found in a drag boat in Alabama, but couldn't say for sure. At best the car needed quarters and floorboard work. I looked closely at it, read the documentation, INCLUDING a letter from Vince Piggins at GM authenticating this particular car as what it was alledged. (more on that later) Having a wife and couple of kids required that I make a choice and could only buy 2 of the 3. I opted for the LS6 El Camino and the Corvette project. DUMB, DUMB DUMB, but more on that later.

Flashback: The year was 1969. A guy I'd known here since we were kids (he was about 3 years younger than me) was turning 16. Some people around here know him as Hank. (He doesn't post on here, but showed at the St. Johns get together last weekend in the Yellow STV with the 300 drag. He's also the original owner of the red/yellow/orange STV that I owned for a while and has it back now, and goes to Jasper with our group every year now.) Anyhow, Hank's folks had a habit of buyin' their kids a new car for their 16th birthday................. a car of their choice. Hank told his folks he wanted a ZL1 Camaro. The story goes they went to the small Chevy store in the relatively small town they lived in, and of course there wasn't one available. Somehow a car was located in Colorado. Hank's mom jumped in her Caddy and headed West. Back she came to Georgia with the ZL1 bein' flat towed on a bumper hitch, driveshaft removed I assume. It was a local street terror for a while then he decided to go drag racin' with it. There was some other guy who was drag racin' one too................... some Yankee, can't think of his name, oh yeah, Bill Jenkins, aka: Grumpy. Now da Grump had his ole' ZL1 runnin' a heap faster and settin' records a heap lower than a teenager from Georgia had much of a shot at, so Hank stuck a small block in the car and sold the all aluminum 427 to a boat racer in Alabama. Some time later the forementioned car restorer guy went and pryed him off of it somehow.

So that's the car I passed on in favor of a 69 Corvette roadster project with the original motor gone, that I never finished. It was sold in boxes. If it hasn't been sold again, the ZL1 is in the Milton Robson collection in N. Georgia and is a class1 show car. I think the last time it changed hands the number was 200 thou. Yep, it was dumb, really dumb. 'Course ole' Hank don't get any Rhodes Scholar awards for sellin' it back then either, 'cause as an original one owner car now it might be worth double what it brought last time.

It's a pretty big car, and I don't drive it much. It's a great tow vehicle and gets a lot better mileage when not towing than a truck or SUV. I have stick shift cars too. The automatic works best for towing for me. The new electronic automatics can be modified to do most anything you want.

I guess I'm getting old, I like it better on the highway than a sports car or GT car.

A buddy of mine used to have an Imp. SS daily driver... It had a 396 small block, LT4 Heads and Intake pretty heavily ported with a strong but not ridiculous nitrous Comp. cam... That big boat ran 11.00's at 124 mph with a 150 shot and 12.30's straight motor... I've been in faster cars, but dogging out C-5 Vettes with 4 buddies in the car is a real hoot... The 600cc street bike guys always had crafty excuses also... I will try hard to own one someday...

Kevin,

You can take a 9C1 Police car and make an Impala look a like. All of the parts are available to my knowledge. The 9C1 is actually a little heavier duty than the Impala. If you buy one look at the inside of the rear deck lid at the equipment list and verify that it is a 9C1. Also verify that it has the 350 engine. The FL state auctions had some nice ones a couple of years ago. I don't know if they are all sold now or not.

The Impalas are still pretty expensive. I bought mine new. It is a great car. The transmission is the weak point, but there is a ton of mods for it.

Awsome story. That camino is very rare. Mine had a turbo 400 and 3.73 gears also. When we put the 305 in I put a turbo 200 in it with a shift kit and 2500 stall converter. It was awsome out of the hole put the little motor couldn't pull on top in. The gut I sold the car to has taken the bench seat out and put buckets with the console in it, his preference, put keep the bench seat. I loved that car but my heart is set on a 55 bel air.

It would have been a hard choice on the vette ot camaro. I probably would have done the same thing. That Zl1 motor is sweet and a complete oringal car would be amazing.

Thanks for the car history. It's always neat to hear the detail on the hands they've gone thru. I've always thought that Duesenburgs were the best looking cars ever made. Each of those that survives has a pretty complete history of who bought new and the trail they've taken over the decades. The history on my 68 GTO convertible is pretty straight forward. An uncle was an executive for American Motors back in the early 60's. When the GTO came out in 64, he and Dad went to Royal Pontiac. The uncle wanted a 64 ragtop with dealer installed 421. They basically told him they were too busy still working full sized projects. End of the Royal story. A few years later (1968), he was with SCM and living in Connecticut. He tossed the idea of buying a new 68 convertible or an Austin Healy 3000. He was over six feet tall and his head was over the Healy windshield so that idea went out the window. He ordered the GTO thru a dealer in Milwaukee that SCM used for company cars. He flew into O'hare, I picked him up and drove him to Milwaukee where he got the car and drove back east. He then took jobs in Europe and the car would sit in storage for long periods. Back to the states and retirement in Florida. My brother talked him out of the car back around 1983 and I got it in 86. Unfortunately, I do not have the window sticker but included in the pile of documentation is the dealer invoice, build sheet and carbon copy of the check my uncle bought it with. It still is matching numbers and original sheet metal. How are your 442/GTO projects coming along???

Another friend has a 66 GTO is a 389 4 speed and a 69 GTO is a 400 4 speed car that his father also bought new. Both of the cars are nice but have had the sh*t ran out of them. Currently the 69 goat is running a 455 and Lenco transmission. Guy is trying to figure out how to put twin turbos on the 455. Money is the biggest problem for him. Dotz, I don't mind at all, I own half of a small business that employs about a dozen folks and dabble with commercial real estate a little bit on the side, but the car toys didn't just happen yesterday. I bought the Chevelle in 1981 for 800 bucks and the motor for about a thousand more several years later. I paid 2500 for the El Camino. I paid 5700 for my L88 Corvette in 1984, but the owner at the time had no idea what it was, and since it had been a local car I'd been looking for it for almost 10 years and I DID KNOW. I also found the L89 Corvette in the mid 80's and paid probably 20% for it then what it would be worth in today's market in the same condition. The Shelby Mustang was 7500 in the 80's but probably worth 10X that now. Those 5 cars together would represent a significant investment in today's market that wouldn't make sense, but in the early to mid 80's old muscle cars were cheap and REAL desirable to me given the past 10 years of pigs from Detroit and my youth as a car nut with no money. Some of my other cars were projects for other people who got em apart and were overwhelmed. It's a funny thing that people will pay big bucks for a car that needs total disassembly and restoration, but once one is scattered it becomes worth a lot less, even though it may have had a bunch of time and money thrown at it. I didn't buy em so much because I thought they'd be worth tons of money one day, but mostly because they were things I wanted but couldn't have as a teenager.

Trip, the 67 442 is in the same bodyshop that has the Chevelle. He piddles with it in his spare time along with the other car. If I'd push him he'd put more effort in, but I don't have a place to put em, so I'm happy with the free storage and slow progress. Both cars are within a day or so of being ready to paint, and the 442 is probably ready now in reality, but he's waitin' on me to bead blast the door hinges and put bushings in em. The GTO is in my warehouse and I just got the rear panel and tail light bezels back from the chromer after waiting 6 mos. this week. The work is diappointing and I'm trying to figure out whether to send it back and wait another 6. I just ain't got much enthusiasm for cars right now for some reason. I say this every year now, but I should sell some projects that I have lost interest in and focus on some of the stuff I'll never get rid of, but of course it's easier said than done.

SSRENGINE,

The people that treated an Impala like that are looking for big bucks. He probably wants more for it than it cost new. The 95 has a digital dash and the shifter on the column. The 96 has an analog dash and a console shifter. I would much prefer a car that has been driven. That engine is not broken in and may not break in since the rings have been sitting this long. Mine was not fully broken in until it had about 15,000 miles on it. The Impala is good for 200,000 or more miles easy. I hope that makes you feel better.

Your correct about wanting to much! I just think it's neet.
If i could get it even at 20k I would. And yes it's a 95. As for as digital it was an option(all yrs). I like the analog becauce of the tach. I do know there are a lot out there with very low miles and fetching over 30k. Even at wholesale they are bringing 5-10k more if it's a nice piece with under 100k.
So I will wait for it to come to me!

My car is a 96 with every available option. It is analog. It has 95k on it and still drives like new. They are around, look at trader online. It's a nice car, but it is not worth the big prices. The problem with is that there is no real replacement. There are several web sites for the car. They advertise there too.

I bought mine in 97 when there was a glut of them on sale. I'm glad I did. The prices seem to drop after 100k. With a few mods a 100k car could be better than a low mile car.

I picked up a Johnex (Johnnex?), its a running almost done car.
I hope to fix it up and sell it the spring. So far its been done right, not like most of them.
bored and stroked 427 side oiler, aluminum heads, Victor junior
T4
9" rear with a panhard rod setup
4 wheel discs, heim joints and coil overs
all she needs is some odds and sods, tuning and jetting etc.
Rumor has it 610 horses @ about 7000 rpm, and I know its got a pile of torque. Theres no way that I'll rev it that high, but it should allow me some bragging rights with "the boys".
I don't think anyone in their right mind should want to be a passenger when I step on it. Right now its LOUD and spits, pops and belches through the carb when I try to open the secondaries. Even running as poorly as it does, its still faster than my daily drivers. If she has anything close to as much power as I'm told she'll pull harder than a stock viper. Maybe I can install a hitch and pull the Allison! The boat, trailer with gas and gear will probably outweigh the Cobra, but it would pack a mean visual punch: The meanest muscle car with a Yellow allison and a 2.5 hanging off the back

That would look awesome!! Would definitely get some looks. I love the cobra kit cars. I have a friend who builds them for a living. He really takes his time on them and gets them done right. He only builds about two a year and has one or two guys working for him(also sells trailers and other misc. things on the side). The power with the 427 is insane, scary fast. As much as I like big blocks, I almost prefer that car with a high horsepower, high-revving, light-weight small block and a close ratio tranny. The 427 definitely gives you the most bragging right, though. Have fun!!

I have a Roe supercharged blue/ white Viper GTS. Over 700 HP...Low 10 car in the 1/4 with street tires, 200 MPH ++ on the top end. It all fits under the hood. Not much can go by it. Wish I could say the same thing about my boat...I get it back Sat. I will try to post pics this weekend...

Here's a two of my babies.
The Jetta's a VR6. It's had no head work done (yet) Chipped, cold air intake, Koni Adjustable suspension on Eibach lowering springs, and a few other minor tuning tricks. All debadged, so you won't know it's a VR6 till it's too late! (It's my Honda spanker! :p)
The white one's my Golf that I've had since highschool. My buddies used to run at Mosport/Shannonville, in the GT3 class (maybe GT2?). When they got sponsored and moved up to a 3 series BMW, I bought one of their fresh 1.8 race motors. :D :D :D Eurolight conversion, full Recaro interior, etc...
It shakes like a top fuel car at the lights, and sounds like a dirt bike on take off, and won't pass our emissions test (see 10 day permit in front window). However it handles like a go kart on the city streets. I've had it up to approx. 230km/h, but it's scary at those speeds. The Golf's about as aerodynamic as a dumptruck. LOL!
Needless to say the local police have pulled me over in it more than once, as it sounds like a race car. Only a noise polution ticket to date ;) .
The new project's an 87 Mustang hatch. No pics, but it's "pull me over yellow", 92 GT interior, 16" ponies, etc... Gonna be a fun toy too!

i would have my head checked if i seen a jetta down here pulling anything other than a jet-ski. lol, seems so out of place when all i am used to seeing pull boats is trucks and fullsize domestic cars. with the right parts that 87 mustang hatch should be pretty wicked too.

My other two toys are something you guys have probably never seen.....

First is a 96 Nissan Skyline GTR, 2.6l Twin turbo, 4WD, 5 speed, has quite a few mods put out 438hp at all four wheels on a recent dyno run... This is my Daily Driver

Second is my drift car also a Nissan (see a re-occuring theme..) For those of you who haven't seen drifting it's one of the craziest forms of motorsport currently around basically you drive round the race track as fast as you can handle while keeping the cars sideways and linking all the corners.. Sounds easy in theory but in practice it's damn hard...

Car is a 180SX with a whole heap of mods, SR20 powered putting out around 500hp at the engine, Not bad for a 2litre 4 cylinder huh?

I would post up some pics but can't shrink them below 100KB
