I am new to jet boats and have just bought a 1976 baja with a 460 and i believe it has a je berkley pump. I dont know if it even runs or not yet as i just bought it and havent got it home yet. I was wondering what kind of speed and h.p. that boat should have i believe it is all suposed to be stock! I would also like to find a good place to find parts as there isnt any dealers that sell jet boat parts in my area. I would like to get a place diverter for it later if it even runs.

any ideas what kind of speed to expect out of the 18 foot baja with a mild built 460?

most of the Baja jets around here run between 55 and 60

thanks riverratt thats kinda what i figured but i hoped i could get around 70 out of it. i hate to get out run by my brothers bass boat but if 60 is all i can get he will out run bad because we have checked his with gps and have seen a steady 68 mph. thats not bad for a 175 evenrude and a 19 foot boat.i guess i may have to spend a lot more money than i thought to keep him from out running me.

dont give up hope yet. I knew someone that had about an 86 Baja BR184 jet with a 454 stock with the high horsepwer which I think was around 275 at the time and he was running about 69 on the speedo. Didn't know what a gps was back then. His boat had the berkley jetovator trim system and if you could keep the boat from porposing it would fly.

i plan on buying a jetovator for it after i get every thing else fixed just want to make sure pump is ok before i spend money on something i can do without for a while. by the way does anyone have any diagrams or pics of how to plumb water lines on jet dont think mine was corect and dont want to crack exaust.

it doesnt look like much now but it seems real solid the jell coat is faded real bad so i am going to paint it this spring if weather breaks and i get time i will try to take some pics. i have the motor out of it for now just got parts for rebuild yesterday. it was a low hour motor but got water in oil someway. it looks like it got rained on and it went around distributer shaft. you could still see the hone marks in the cylinders but they had started to rust so i honed last night so if i get time i will clean tomarrow and put short block back together. i still have to order cam and do a lot of port work on the heads. i have scj intake and the heads are stock d3s. it looks like i will have to take out at least an half inch to get them gasket matched to intake. i might just find another intake untill i find a good set of heads.

i have seen several 460 jet boat motors that came with the scj intake.. i built one for a customer a few years ago and used a set of the edelbrock aluminum heads on it and it really woke it up...
good luck with the project...

I had a 1981 Baja bow rider with a f pump and I ran 55 with a stock 460.

My 82 190-S will go 70 @5500rpm. I took a set of DOVE heads from a 69 460, cleaned the burs in the ports and added roller rockers , Offy intake, Demon 780cfm carb, a crane cam, MSD ignition, place deverter, drop snoot, and holly fuel pump.

It jumped from 62mph @5000rpm (62mph@ 5000rpm) to 70.
