The 250, 250 HP (187 kw) @ 5150 RPM, is it more HP at higher RPMs? The rec. Rpms are 4500 to 5800 rpms! I believe their 225 HO puts out 246 HP!

I believe the Merc 250 XB is also a strong motor, 270+ HP? I see one for sale ,a 03 86 hrs on it for $10.5K. It probably will sell for less, maybe $9.5K? i hear they hold up really good, they burn the gas fast though?

No I find the verado attractive compared to the e-tec
But ya the verado does look like a jumbo pron

LMAO
Get a grip!
The Verado is aN oversize lobster compaired to the Etec!
Pay attention everyone... One power pulse per cylinder per revolution...
The 2 stroke will always win power to weight and with the new Tec.. The ETec 2stroke Will win the sniffer and fuel Gulper tests.
It does suck merc has givven up on the light weigh powerfull 2 strokes.
Good news is BMC Evinrudes are coming to the rescue!

sounds like you need to "get a grip" merc has several DFI motors that better the rudes RPM by 500+ and are 100lbs lighter.

ps, they are both god awful ugly and heavy pigs to boot. (etec-600lbs rigged, verado 700 rigged)

no stream
Its just whats going on here in wisconsin. Not hard to figure out when its all right under your nose.
You can talk about the Optis all you want but they are on the way out.
Merc is all about 4 stokes now.
almost all of the good 2 stroke people are gone from Fondulac anyway.
Good luck

yeah, thats why merc has released 2 new models for 2005- and will release another at miami boat show  Just because they release one 4stroke model, "Merc is all about 4 stokes now" what a friggin joke.

No No cowboy
you can figure it out.
They have a couple "New" (LMAO) motors coming out.
Technoligy THat has been on the merc table for 5++ years.
Every motor under 200hp has a 4 stroke alternative.
And now the 4 stroke 200s are out.
Go Figure.
Sorry to say But The flame is about out for the 2 stroke in fondulac…

IMO has very clean lines and looks COOL! Kinda has a retro look with the dipping on the sides of the cowl. I really like the front and side views. Below the cowl will take some getting used to. The Verado, well I still havent got used to its looks. Reminds me of the old Dig Dug video game and looks like its about to POP! :D

What gets me about the ETEC's are how "small" and compact they look considering they have 3.3L of displacement. They look more compact than the 3.3L Vmax HPDI's and the Ficht Rams they are replacing. I also think EVINRUDE did an awesome job on keeping the weight down. the 200/225HO ETECS (20") are only 509 lbs, thats lighter than the Ficht Rams (517) the Vmax HPDI (539) the SAME as the 3.1 Vmax EFI (509) and only 4 lbs more than the Merc 250xs. When you think about it 4 lbs aint squat when you consider that is a 3.3L vs a 3.0L  This COULD also be showing a trend of the longer they improve the DFI (ETEC is 3rd generation) the lighter they are getting. :)

Hate to burst your bubble, but the Optimax's will be around for at least 8 more years and will be supported long after that.

Did you see the video on the 2 mile drag race between ETEC, Verado, and Yamhaha? ETEC won by over 4 seconds. Cool.:D

Any truth to the rumor that small e-tec's, down to 9.9, will be at miami this year?

If BRP produces small etc's this merc guy will be buying an Envinrude next. I think the E-tecs are fantastic engines. Ithink the Verado is a great engine for large boats but, the about 100 lbs overwieght- LOOSE THE PLASTIC MERCS. Think of the wasted space in the cowl and midsection, and the heavy cowling to go withit. I'd like to take a Verado, heat the cowl, stick a vacum hose in the cowl and suck out the air- be intesrting to see a Shrink wrapped V.

I was kind of thinking the same thing, a little fuel injected 2-stroke would be awesome

Wonder if the 9.9's will be a single or twin, isn't the current e-tec 40-70 twins?

That is showing how many boat lengths the Verado was behind the ETEC in a drag race to 150 ft. LOL :D

That does look pretty bad :o

That is one bad bar chart. Must have come from the brain of a MBA grad.
I'd fire the team that produced that chart, right up the chain of command, no excuse for something as bad as that.

'Sposed to have new E-TECs at the show like a 9.9/15, 25/30, 115, ?/150, 175.. Doubt all are ready to ship now but some schedule of availabilty should be announced. Probably a few will be intro'ed as 2006 models. Can you see how much fuel an E-TEC 9.9 would use at trolling speed, or any speed? They could go back to a quart tank mounted on the engine!. This is hearsay as they say.
