my 89 bridgeport 2.4v6 efi when it's had a run and then returns to tickover speed sometimes it will tick over then sometimes it will cut out.it always fires straight back up again.the rpm is moving up and down from around 1000 rpm to around 1600rpm during tick over
any ideas what may be the problem?

thanks

Check your fuel filters.

Check for water or any residue in that filter. Replace if questionable.

Normally, rpm fluctuations that wide are fuel related, especially at idle.

Your injectors may need cleaning. Is this a horn motor?

hi
yes there is a horn with a plate inside it that opens when you operate the throttle.
ive put some fuel additive and stabalizer in the fuel but has made no difference

thanks

Remove the fuel rail from the crankcase, leaving the injectors on the rail. Have someone crank the engine and observe the spray of the injectors. You should get a fine mist, with two injectors spraying at a time.

Please exercise due care and have a fire extinguisher nearby.

I see that you have another post on a bp 2.4 turning 7500 rpm. Is this the same engine? What ecu do you have? You should also install a fuel pressure gauge and check the fuel pressure.
