My 140 inline died yesterday makin a pass on the lake. I was at 5600 RPM and just made a passs one direction and then slowed down, turned around a took off. Shortly after on-plane, I got to speed and she died like I yanked the kill switch. No bog, no slow, just DONE. It turned over fine, spit a couple times(like timing was off) and just rolled after that. Got it home and compression is at 128-132 on all cylinders. Not fuel related. I pulled the dist cap and it looked like sand in it. The wiring to it got hot because the coating was blistered. I thought the bearings went out of the dist and it jumped time. At TDC, the rotor is pinting at #2 on the cap, which is 180 degrees off. Are they like a car and have to lign up with #1 at TDC? I have a manual, but it takes you through 20 steps. Maybe I need to take 20 steps. help me out here. I did a search, but I am still not satisfied. Thanx.
