The ODBA World Championship Race in Jasper, TN is quickly approaching. With over 150 boats from all over North America registered at last year’s event, we expect to increase that number for 2004. The racing this season has been close in many classes, with many racers vying for the coveted National Championship title in the points series and the World Championship title as well. This event is also the final Mercury Marine Triple Crown event and will crown champions in five classes at this race. There will be many newcomers this year joining the sport for this event and we welcome them to the competition. This year, the racing at Jasper is going to be better than ever.

Tradewinds Marine is holding their annual engine raffle at this race and a lucky ticket holder will be going home with a hard to get Mercury Racing 2.5L 280 hp high performance outboard engine. There will only be 200 tickets sold, and many have already been purchased – be sure to get your raffle ticket at the race or by calling Tricia at Tradewinds Marine 847-395-8110.

Mercury Marine will have the racing support trailer on site to provide help, and parts to the racers, as well as selling Mercury Marine merchandise to the spectators. Make sure you visit the trailer at the race.

Other event and series sponsors will be in Jasper to support the event including Triad STV Powerboats, Allison boats, Hydrostream Boats,Weldon Racing Products, Rapair, and many more. Lamar Standish of Apollo Imaging will be on hand taking pictures of the boats in action, stop by and purchase a photo of your favorite racer or boat. Lamar will also be shooting pictures of the river run on Friday and covering all of the weekend’s action for a future article in Family and Performance Boating Magazine.

There will be a swap meet area set up at Jasper for buying and selling used parts – NO MARINE RETAIL VENDORS. Booths will be $25 for a 10’x10’ area – vendors will need their own table and canopy. If you would like to reserve an area, contact Paul Freeman – (931) 473-4855.

***There is NOT a requirement to have raced with the ODBA this season to run in the World Championship. All racers who wish to run at this event will have to be full racing members. As a result, they will earn National Championship and Triple Crown Points. ***

-ODBA full racing membership is $250 and includes an additional non-racing associate membership with voting privileges.
-Entry Fee is $125 per class entered.
-Fuel is $6.50 per gallon with a 10 gallon minimum for all classes except Pro Fuel and Unlimited.
-Klotz R50 oil is $6.50 per qt. with a 1 quart minimum for all classes except Pro Fuel and Unlimited.

**The ODBA reminds its competitors that failure to flush their fuel system with fuel from the race site prior to entering the water to race will likely result in their fuel failing the rigid fuel tech standards. This will result in the racer losing his points and standing for this event, and can result in a racer being banned from competition for a complete year.

We recommend that all racers show up at the event with a completely drained fuel system, and add a couple of gallons of fuel from the race site to their empty tank, turn on the fuel pump to circulate the fuel, then pump this fuel out of the boat prior to adding fuel to race.**

Fri Oct. 8 - Testing and registration will begin at 12:00 NOON and run to 5:00pm – ODBA spec fuel and oil will be available for testing. Rodney Nance will be conducting the Tennessee River Run at Noon from the Shellmound Recreation Area - exit 158. The river run on Friday will start at noon CST from the Shellmound recreation area. Shellmound is at exit 158 the first exit on the West bound side just past were you can see the race sight from the interstate. At the bottom of the ramp turn left. (If you were going to the race site you would go right) If coming from the East bound side (Nashville) turn right. About 2 miles on left look for boat ramp sign. If you go to far you will be at the Nickajack Damn.
If the weather and water is good we will go all the way to downtown Chattanooga. It is right at 40 miles each way. There is gas in Chattanooga but it is 91 octane. I put some race gas in the tank before I leave Shellmound to keep the octane up after I fuel In Chattanooga.
I talked to Chip Wampler tonight and he is nailing the entertainment down for the Acuff party. The BBQ guy will be there also selling plates.

Great info on Jasper.

Do you know if there will be a spot for spectator tents?

Will the Scale be available on Friday?

Greg

Spectator tents will not be allowed in the area around the Judges stand in order to allow more spectators to see the complete course. But they will be allowed further down along the bank to the right of where the judges stand is usually set up. The event promoter will have the areas marked on Thursday.

The scales and fuel/oil will be available on Friday from 12-5pm CST.
