Got a 2.5 280 EFI. What is the best priced good 2-stroke to use?? Right now I am running the expensive semi-synthetic Merc oil. The dealer by me is getting $85.00 for 2.5 Gallons! I know there must be a better alternative?? Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks, Doc Also how many ounces per gallon? I have been using 4 ozs. / gallon

For cost to performance and availability its about the best you can get. Around $20 a gallon and excellent quality. Amsoil and Alisyn are also very good. We like the Alisyn slightly better then the rest, but its much pricier. Performance for the dollar , I'd say the Penzoil 100% Syn is the ticket.

Wallmart still doesn't sell the 100% here anymore.
So I have been using the Merc oil, and if I can't get to the marina in time to get that, I use the Pennzoil blend, it is only $10 a gal.
and since this is a stock motor this year, and it only turns 6500 RPM's, (and lately I keep closer to 5000-5500 or less) this oil has proven to be fine in that range.

read the label on the back of the pennzoil 100% synthetic.
it say the same thing as the pennzoil blend. 9.99 a gallon vs.
19.99 a gallon.

You can also use Mercury Premium Plus oil @ $18.50 per gallon or even the Premium @ $15.50, both good oils. I have less carboning with the Premium Plus than with Pennzoil. A study using Rotax air cooled aircraft motors found less carboning with the Pennzoil Blend than the 100% Synthetic. It depends on your specific application and what does the job for you. Keep in mind the motor manufacturers have a vested interest in your motor where the oil companies do not.
I have switched from the Pennzoil 100% to Merc Premium Plus in my own motor and like the results.

ALL OILS are a blend of several things , a base stock which makes up the majority of the content ( 90 % ) and an add pack which is made up of things such as rust inhibitors and so on ! The base stock of Pennzoil is a polymer base stock. Most All synthetic products are made from OIL. From panty hose to chewing gum , yes chewing gum is made from butyl rubber which is a derivitive of oil a product called Vistanex.
The rating to be able to be called 100% syn is what a person should look for the percentages of the mix and the addition of the cheaper mineral oil to take up the volume of the more expensive syn. base stock is the difference in the oils ! The difference between a double shot drink vs a watered down 1/2 shot one! I strive for the oil with the least carbon ( mineral oil ) content I can run in an engine !
But to each his own !
what do you guys think of blue marble.,

Eli,
When ODBA required thier racers to use it I tore down a bunch of my sponsership motors and didn't like what I saw ! Its a Tree Hugger product and is probally great for trees but not for 2 stroke outboards !
My opinion only !
Thanks.i'll take it as good advice.
