just wondering if everyone had heard the good news about mercury not building any nore 200/225 optimax for now, we got the good news via fax this afternoon. I am glad they are taking this piece of crap off the market, guess they are tired of replacing powerheads.

After three 225 carb powerhead losses (#2 cyl every time)My work bought a 225 Optimax for our harbor patrol boat. At 1200 - 1500 rpm's it surges / bucks so bad I'm afraid the transom is going to fall off....and it's on an aluminum boat! The dealer can't figure it out....Even the Merc rep came up and can't fix it.....yet. Wish we could get a 300 Pro Max!!

WE HAD ONE THAT DID THAT AND IT HAD A BROKE REED. AT DEAD IDLE IT WAS STILL PRETTY SMOOTH, THOSE THINGS CAN COVER UP PROBLEMS AND THROW YOU OFF. IS EVERYONE STILL HAVING PROBLEMS. WE HAVENT ON 2000 AND NEWER, ONLY HAD ONE 2001 PROBLEM COMP BLEW APART COMPLETELY.

Yes it's still not right. This one is a 2000 model (Digital) We had to send the whole boat on the ferry (WE live on a Island) to a neighboring town with a Merc dealer to get the work done. That's where the rep was. They said it was fixed and returned the boat ($500.00 ferry ticket at our expense). Since they didn't run the motor at 1200 - 1500 rpms, it appeared fine to them. They said I was NUTS when I called them as soon as we got it back. THey wanted me to pull the plugs and look at the color. They were very sooty. We'll see. Thanks for the reply.
