I am thinking about installing a Mercruiser trim pump in place of the stock trim pump on my engine. The stock merc pump has a bleed down valve between the two hose fittings on the pump but the new mercruiser unit doesn't seem to have this feature fromthe picture that I am looking at. Am I missing something?

Best Wishes, Carter

That is a manual release valve. You will only need it if the motor goes out. I have been using the Mercruiser pump for 6years now and have never had a motor problem. If you want to change to the Mercruiser style pump use the Bob's pump it is half the price of the Merc and is the same thing,Just doesn't come with the base bracket. You will need to get the fittings for the hoses to fit the pump but they are availible cheap at any hose shop. E-mail Rice racer before you buy the pump he may beable to save you some money. You will really like the new pump it reacts twice as fast as the stock pump.

Greg:

Thanks for the reply but I think you missed the question. I know the stock merc pump pretty well and understand the BLEED DOWN VALVE and its location. What I don't understand is the NEW PUMP! It does'nt seem to have a BLEED DOWN VALVE in the same location. On your Mrecruiser pump is there a Bleed down valve in the same location as the stock pump?
I bought this one new off of E-bay for a $100.00

Thanks, Carter

Carter there is no manual release on a mercruiser pump. Does the one you have have the white plastic resivoir? You will love it.It is so much faster than the one you have been running.

Yeah, it's got the white plastic resovoir. Does the wiring all hook up the same. I was thinking of taking the floor mount metal frame off and just mounting it to a knee brace to save some room. I guess all the wiring is the same as far as the plug ins and connectors. What do I need as far as fittings for the hose connectors.

Many Thanks, Carter

Carter it is a sign I think fadeing memory or something or just getting old. Cause I sure don't remember what size is in the pump. If your hoses are the same as mine they are 3/8 inverted flair. Take the pump and one of the hoses with you to the hose shop and make sure. I used brass and they last fine. greg
