I'm looking for some slightly longer steering cables to replace my stock Mercury Ride-Guide cables. I'm not sure of the exact way the cables are measured, but mine measure 12' 6" for the cable itself - not the ends. In other words, 12' 6" from where the cable attaches to the fitting going into the tilt tube to the fitting going into the rack. I MAY have seen that you add 30" to this figure to get the proper length measurement which would make mine 15' cables. Does this sound right? Also, can Morse cables be used in a Ride-Guide rack system? Thanks a lot!

I think the ride-guide cables have their length marked on the casing at the motor end of the cable. Check and see if yours are marked and then add the extra length you need to that and post again. I have a good set hanging in my garage, but I forget the length. I'll check tonight.

If you can't find any good used cables, let me know. I can sell you new for the best prices. Here is the Merc instructions for measuring RideGuide cables.
P.S. If you think you may want to add a jackplate or setback you may want to include the proposed setback into the measurements.

DaveR: I had checked my cables to see if they had the length stamped on them. If they did, they have been rubbed off. If mine are 15' long, I would probably be looking for 16 footers. I know of a set of 16' Morse cables for sale but I'm not sure if they will fit. I would appreciate it if you would let me know how long your cables are.
Rickracer: I will certainly check with you if I need new ones.
