6th heat of the Turkey Offshore Championship took place in Istanbul last weekend. It was an excellent day for us and I thought it would also be interesting for you my friends ;)
This is a 7 stage championship which was organized by Istanbul Offshore Club. Boats are 23 to 26 footer racing catamarans and 225 hp is the limit. Mods aren't allowed, all stock engines...
It's the only racing event for powerboats here in Turkey and this is its second year, but the raising number of participants sounds promising for future...
Here are some pics...

Losers :D There were EFIs, Fichts, and HO Fichts and all beaten by an Opti... I really don't understand why some people are so hostile against those engines. Ok, almost no mods available but DFIs are the future of Two-Strokes. This should be considered...

Cost of the victory  one more lap and the sweet Opti will swim with fishes :D They were really lucky...
think flying so much with neg. trim could cause that, or i'm wrong???

I love seening stuff from over seas, very cool to see different approaches to things. I remember going to Argintina years back and they had alot of wood boats still but were out there racing. I am pretty sure that the gearcase is a 3 litre sportmaster.

As far as i've been told they run in the upper 80s...
All of these cats were built in Turkey and customized specially for this championship. For example a "closed canopy" was an obligation for this year but many teams didn't have enough time to comply with this rule. All cats are 23-26 footers...

Cool!
We have alot of UIM class 3C (XR2 -2,0l.) here, and they must now have a cockpit. A friend of mine had a 21 ft. Argo cat with 230 hp XR2 on it. It ran 95 mph. and we hoped that nothing scary would happen. In the winter he made a solid cockpit and the summer after he crashed the boat (nose dived) in 85 mph. and the boat was not possible to fix. But he was out of it without damages! If it hadn't been for that canopy, I think it would have been another story...
Take care ;)

Yes, they have their licenses and all racing crew have to have the "Dunk Test Certificate". It is required to have preliminary scuba knowledge and experience. Following the necessary scuba instructions, pilots went thru a simulation of survival from an inverted boat, with the help of a specially prepared device called the "Dunker" in a swimming pool....So, Istanbul Offshore Club does its job very well in safety issues...
Another info about the organization; president of IOC told that they've been inspired by Class-3 Championship and it belongs to 4-liter category of Class-3. The only difference is that this champ. consists of 7 stages instead of three
